About this product

Product Information

We live in an age of unprecedented opportunity: with ambition, drive, and talent, you can rise to the top of your chosen profession regardless of where you started out. But with opportunity comes responsibility. Companies today aren't managing their knowledge workers careers. Instead, you must be your own chief executive officer. That means it's up to you to carve out your place in the world and know when to change course. And it's up to you to keep yourself engaged and productive during a career that may span some 50 years. In Managing Oneself , Peter Drucker explains how to do it. The keys: Cultivate a deep understanding of yourself by identifying your most valuable strengths and most dangerous weaknesses; Articulate how you learn and work with others and what your most deeply held values are; and Describe the type of work environment where you can make the greatest contribution. Only when you operate with a combination of your strengths and self-knowledge can you achieve true and lasting excellence. Managing Oneself identifies the probing questions you need to ask to gain the insights essential for taking charge of your career. Peter Drucker was a writer, teacher, and consultant. His 34 books have been published in more than 70 languages. He founded the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, and counseled 13 governments, public services institutions, and major corporations.

    Excellent Short Read

I'm a college student studying business management. I read a lot about Peter Drucker, so I decided to buy this book, at the recommendation of a friend. Even as a slow reader, this short book only took me 45 minutes to read. It is very straight to the point and has no fluff/filler words, which I wish all books were this way. I've actually decided to read it every week because the material within it is so meaningful to me and because it now only takes me about 30 minutes. I have read several other books from various authors that seem to draw their material directly from this book. For the price and value you will gain from this little book, it is well worth the money!

  • short and sweet. a great guide for each of us!

Well written, with anecdotes to illustrate, and an eloquent presentation of some of his more debateable/controversial solutions, like it being the subordinate's responsibility to maintain open and useful lines of communications with his superiors, to let him/her know what you are up to, to make sure you are aligning your efforts with departmental and corporate or organizaiton goals ... we used to call this 'sucking up' back in the 70's and 80's, but I am now recognizing that failure to maintain and build on such lines of communication hinders one's own contributions and development as an employee ... He also says we have a duty to be polite, civil, constructive, in our communications with peers, superiors and subordinates and for same reason ... don't set yourself back! Sometimes you are ...

  • Great amount of knowledge for such a small handbook

This book provides great amount of knowledge for such a small handbook. It can be used to build self confidence and build mental strength. -Peter Drucker says, "the reason most of us never achieve greatness like Richard Branson, Leonardo DA Vinci, or Mozart is because we don't actually know what our strengths are." This book teaches you to build on your strength, rather than something you will never will be good at. One of his most important line is, "You can only build on strength." Once you read it, you will understand why.
