The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III digital SLR camera can be a powerful EOS-1 device for serious photographers. The 21.1 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor and dual DIGIC III Image Processors can deliver high image quality at lightning speed. The 45 point AF system can make this Canon EOS device versatile for precise photo compositions. It has a vast array of compatible Canon EF lenses. With durable body and shutter design, the EOS-1Ds device can handle rough use. Wireless remote capabilities and an integrated cleaning system make this a high end digital camera. The sensor recording area of the Canon EOS-1D Mark III is 36 by 24mm. It is the same frame size as the 35mm film format. The high pixel count on this large area can create stunning results. The ISO range is 100 to 1600, but it can be expanded from 50 to 3200. The CMOS sensor technology ensures low noise level in high ISO settings to avoid grainy pictures. From the CMOS, the image is passed through a 14 bit analog to digital converter. The A/D converter records 16,384 distinct brightness levels, giving the photos sharper contrast. It also generates large image data. This data is handled using the powerful Dual DIGIC III Image Processors capable of parallel processing. The processors also contribute to noise reduction to improve image quality. With the Canon AF technology, the Canon 1Ds Mark III DSLR cameras provide advanced autofocus. The 45 point AF system on this Canon EOS device gives continuous coverage of a large focus area. Besides the automatic mode, users can use the 19 cross type AF points with additional 26 assist points for manual focus. Even at 5 fps, the automatic AF system can keep track of the subject. For custom flash output, Canon's E-TTL II flash metering system monitors light conditions. The 1Ds camera also features the 63 zone metering system. The combination of the AF system and the flash monitoring gives you a precisely focused and welllighted image. The Canon 1Ds Mark III has a durable and water resistant camera body. You can take it for a shoot in the most challenging environment. It runs on long lasting lithium-ion battery. These cameras support the fast Ultra Direct Memory Access CF memory cards, so you can store your images faster. Any type of lens kit in the Canon EF family is compatible, so you have a great selection to choose from. The camera features a 3.0 LCD screen and a viewfinder. Live View Function shows image output in real time. You can use either the viewfinder or the LCD screen to set aperture, AF focus points, shutter speed, battery check, etc. The wireless file transmitter WFT-E2A can be set up with your wireless LAN. It saves you the trouble of carrying cables. With Canon EOS Utility Software and WFT-E2A firmware, you can remotely control the camera from your computer in real time. It makes complicated image composition easier to handle. The EOS Integrated Cleaning System can self monitor and remove dust from low pass filter using ultrasonic vibrations. It can save a lot of time for photographers working in dusty conditions. All of these features on the Canon EOS-1D can combine to make it a great device for professional photographers.

    Great features

    It's one of the best Canon SLR camera , my bought it used ( 6-7 years old ?? ) and it's still running very smooth and very sharp on my L Canon lenses . I use it more often for the last few events , it's much more heavier than my 7 D but it is my main camera now.

    Holds it's own against the most new top amateur camera's, as in 7D, 5D_III etc.

    Started digital with the game changer 1D. Now I work with this 1Ds Mark III. What a step forward that is! Great image quality straight out of the camera. Detail is fantastic, colors are beautiful. Landscape panorama's with 100+ images are huge, but you can really zoom in forever. In large prints the color holds up very well. My "L" lenses really shine with this camera. Heavy, but resilient to hard labor. I use them in weddings (hence I have 3 of them), airshows, in all kinds of weather. In the studio: my most used camera. Very easy to handle, the weight is perfect in balance for the heavy "L" lenses. The battery is very good for shooting a long time. Not a speed monster (1D Mark IV is the better choice for that), but the images are big! I use 64 Gb CF and SD cards, but shooting in RAW, it ...

    Excellent choice for studio or architectural photography.

    In mid-2014, this camera still stands out as a producer of high quality studio and landscape images. I use this camera for landscape and architectural photography and primarily HDR rendering. Compared to the older model I had been using, this camera produces much improved images. The battery life is awesome! I am using the fastest compact flash on the market and it works flawlessly with this camera.

    The Camera is very good - software is the worst!

    The Camera has several upgrades over the 1Ds Mk II but they also screwed up some of the old features. Canon software is the worst in the business and no other 3rd party has been able to use it tethered. Stand alone the camera is great. Connected to a computer as I could with the Mark II it does not work. Hope this is cleared up soon - then and only then can it be used to its full capacity.

    To soon old, to late smart. (old German saying)

    Having Canon cameras for many years plus an assortment of lens and flash it was only natural and financially wise to continue with the brand loyalty. I found many of the features of EOS 1 Ds Mark lll similar to my EOS 3 film camera. This is my first digital camera and I would have to say of all the cameras I have owned that I have been the least enthusiastic about this camera. Coming into the digital age almost 30 yrs late no doubt explains my lack of enthusiasm. I am trying to teach myself the workings of this digital camera but find myself constantly going back to the "well" for information about what this button and that button does. The idea of just shooting alot of pictures because you can delete the ones you don't like is foreign to me. I'm not sucessful using ...
