Brandon Lee died for THIS?!?
Other than being the movie that Brandon Lee died on the set of, there's nothing about this movie that stands out as anything special. I'm a big fan of the source material which, unlike the movie, was trailbreaking for it's era and medium. Beyond the unnecessary deviations from the source material, the lackluster performance of the actors and the cartoonish violence (hint: this worked in the source material because of the medium of that material -comic books), this is obviously another case of Hollywood appropriating something cool, taking a steaming #2 on it, and turning it into a sequel vehicle. Some stories are supposed to have an end, and none need to be retold in a medium that is guranteed to disappoint. To paraphrase Dr Zoidberg: Your movie is bad and you should feel bad!Other than being the movie that Brandon Lee died on the set of, there's nothing about this movie that stands out as anything special. How about that it is a tale of vigilante revenge, but with one huge twist over such films as "Death Wish" & "The Brave One", the vigilante is essentially a zombie! Got your attention? Brandon Lee (son of legendary martial arts film giant Bruce Lee) stars as Eric Draven, a small time rocker living in blissful squallier with his crusading fiance Shelley. The two were scheduled to be married on Halloween night but are murdered by thugs the night before, Devil's Night, due to Shelley's petition to keep all the tenants in their building from being evicted. We are told right at the beginning that a crow will be the guide to allow those who have been wronged to seek their revenge ... One year after the murders, a crow resurrects Eric Draven to seek his revenge. We are treated to lots of action & explosions as he takes out his killers one at a time. He eventually faces off against the city's crime lord in the finale. Lee offers up a haunting performance that is also twinged with lots of personality & a touch of humor making him not just a killer, but a person. The cast has plenty of familiar names & faces. Ernie Hudson plays a beat cop & former friend of Eric's & Shelley's. He was busted down from detective due to some unexplained incident & tries to help Eric in his quest for vengeance once he figures out what is going on. Michael Wincott plays kingpin Top Dollar & Bai Ling is his depraved Asian girlfriend (isn't there always one in these types of movies?)who uncovers Eric's secret. David Patrick Kelly once again plays a homicidal thug, T-Bird, & leader of the gang that murdered Eric & Shelley. Talk about being type cast! Youngster Rochelle Davis plays street urchin Sarah who Eric & Shelley care for in place of her drug addict mother (Played by Anna Levine). Davis is a mystery unto herself as this is apparently her only performance. She does a good job as a street tough wise cracking kid so it's odd that she never even made another appearance even on TV? Jon Polito is sleazy pawn shop owner Gideon. You may not know all the names, but I guarantee you'll know the faces! It's a solid cast! This is an excellent action thriller! The ending is somewhat typical & a bit of a let down, but the rest of the movie is well worth watching! The huge battle in Top Dollar's office is not to be missed!

Be careful buying dvd movies

Brandon Lee's best performance
This was truly Brandon Lee's best performance, and unfortunately his last. It seems as if this role was written specifically for him. This movie is brilliant. He played the part so well, it fit him so perfect. This movie will touch your soul, it shakes the emotions within. Ever since I saw this movie when I was younger, it has been my favorite. The movie is truly keeps the viewer excited, in awe, and finally satisfied with a sense of justice. I can't see anyone disagreeing that this is truly one of the best movies ever made. Brandon Lee was a wonderful person, and actor, and although it is so unfortunate that he was taken away from us so untimely, this film truly makes for a great way to remember him.You must watch Brandon's interview after watching the film.
