Keep in mind I just got it today. So far so good. It's easy to install. I did slice the tip of my thumb off hitting it on the sharpener while tightening one of the screws (installing it). So be careful. That's on me. It's sharp. Be sure and hold pencil straight while sharpening and probably get quality pencils too. The first pencil had wood almost to the tip of the lead after sharpening it. When I saw that, I adjusted how I held my pencil and the others are fine. (hold the pencil straight in the whole.) I think that will help you get an evenly sharpened pencil. I recommend buying this. I grew up with this type of sharpener in school and it sure beats those little ones we use to keep in our notebooks pencil holder. That's what I was using before today. I hung it in my laundry ... Breaks the leads off repeatedly rather than sharpening them.
I used the sharpener on art pencils, Prismacolor, Faber, Mongol, Crayoloa Metallic, and two store brands. The result was the same in all cases, The wood seemed to be too hard for the pencil sharpener, while the colored "leads" seemed to be too soft. But the time enough wood had been removed to get to the lead, the leads would break off, leaving a hole in the wood. Continually trying to sharpen the pencils resulted in losing 1 or 2 inches with no sharpened pencil, just a broken off stub.I used the sharpener on art pencils, Prismacolor, Faber, Mongol, Crayoloa Metallic, and two store brands.
