About this product

Product Information

Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST is transformed in this landmark science-fiction film. Spacemen travel to a planet ruled by Dr. Edward Morbius (Walter Pidgeon), who has built a kingdom with his daughter and obedient robot Robby. The good doctor is plagued by his mad quest for knowledge through his "brain booster" machine, and by Freudian "monsters from the id" as his daughter discovers other men and learns to kiss.

Honest Seller - used item was just as pictured. Arrived well packaged and clean. Just wish shipping was a bit less or the overall price could be less for a coffee mug. Thank you

    home movie theater

I have a home theater and even the sound was breath taking. My screen is over 105 diagonal with a runco crt projector. Color and clarity outstanding. I am a retired I.a.t.s.e. projectionist and ran this film many years ago in the theaters.

    Great classic, almost perfect DVD.

The DVD was Brand New, Unopened as promised and plays wonderfully. However, for some reason, the sound volume is very low. I have to turn the volume of my television set up to almost 70% of max to clearly hear it. I know this is not a machine (my tv) issue as its the only video that I have had this happen with, other wise I have no issues with this movie.

  • Forbidden Planet: Best Sci Fi Movie Ever!

You may think Star Wars qualifies as the best SciFi movie ever - but watch this movie to see where George Lucas claims to have gotten a lot of his inspiration. Lucas even pays tribute to Robby The Robot in the first Star Wars movie (Look in the background of the jawa landcrawler).
This movie has so much pop culture and well done special effects - that it will absolutely AMAZE you.
Very cool to see Leslie Neilson as a young actor - it will be hard for you to accept him a serious role after seeing him in the Naked Gun and Airplane movies.
I think we will find that the TV series "Lost" is based loosely on this movie and Shakespeare's The Tempest.
Even though this movie was made in the mid 50's - I doubt seriously that you ...

  • Great DVD, in color it's much better than 40+years ago!

I first watched Forbidden Planet over 40 years ago, and except for Star Wars most other sci-fi movies produced before Star Wars and many since, have not met the standard set by Forbiden Planet. Charracteristic of nearly all movies produced by Hollywood in the 50's , 60's , and even the 70's , the acting was somewhat predictable and dated, the special effects rivaled and even surpassed the mid-grade computer-generated ones of today, and instead of the lone female getting all kinds of lewd and pornographic sex acts performed on her as in today's seemingly mandatory cinema obligations Forbidden Planet fortunately has merely overacted kissing portrayed. The rugrats at home won't be prompted to field-test recreational sex acts on the neighbor's kids after watching Forbidden Planet, not so with ...

  • Great story, great acting, great special effects. A must have movie.

This a great classic sci fi movie from the 1950s. Gene Rodenberry borrowed a lot from this movie when he made Star Trek a decade or so later. This was the first movie to show a human faster than light ship. The synopsis is a spacehip from Earth is sent to check on a human colony on a alien planet after 20 years of no contact. When they arrive, they find only two survivors, Dr. Morbius, played by Walter Pidgeon and his daughter played by Anne Francis, have survived. Dr. Morbius warns the Earth ship away, but the Captain Adams, played by Leslie Nielsen, decides to land and investigate. Eventually, he discovers the deadly secret of Altair IV. The story is very tight and the plot doesn't have any major holes in it making for a really good movie. There is just the right blend of mystery, ...
