    The Great Pioneer Zephyr by Lionel.

    I have longed loved trains of every sort, but only one is truly my most favorite. The Pioneer Zephyr. The real one was built in the very early 1930's. The bodies of the train set were constructed of stainless steel. It had a diesel engine. It consisted of three very distinct cars. One being both engine and RPO. The opulence and luxury was extremely amazing. She could do 110 plus mph. Nothing on the tracks even came close. She looked very futuristic and indeed science fiction like. Anyone living near the tracks saw her and were totally amazed by the lack of driver arms and steam. So common during this time period. The Zephyr looked like the Worlds Fair on wheels. Sleek, fast, futuristic. A true first train set. The Lionel version of this most beautiful train set very nearly replicates the ...
