The Western Digital WD1600HLHX VelociRaptor internal hard drive is equipped with a SATA III interface with a speed of 6 Gbps, double that of standard Serial ATA drives. The Western Digital 160 GB Hard Drive boasts a rotational spindle speed of 10,000 RPM, which decreases latency when the system is reading and writing data to and from the drive. A 32 MB cache serves as onboard RAM, storing information about recently accessed data instead of sending it to the drive itself, thus increasing the access speed to frequently used files within the Western Digital 160 GB Hard Drive. The Western Digital WD1600HLHX internal hard drive features an average latency of 3 ms with a typical drive-ready time of 8 seconds. The Western Digital 160 GB Hard Drive has an operational temperature of 41 to 131 degrees F, with non-operational temperatures of -40 to 158 degrees F. This Windows/Mac compatible hard drive measures in at 1 inch high by 5.8 inches long by 4 inches wide, and weighs 1.1 lbs.

I bought a used (Seller refurbished) Dell 990 Mini Tower with a Intel Core i7 CPU, it came with a re-certified HD, but after using 3 sources, I kept getting REPLACE type messages, and it lagged a bit too. Well, I bought this NEW WD1600HLHX 169GB HD, and WOW!!!!!! Very, very fast!!!!! You can hear it working, but I personally do NOT find it annoying, or distracting, not really! If you ever used 10K RPM drives 5-10 years ago, this one is quiet! LOL Also, it is a 2.5" drive, mounted in a shock/sound/heat absorbing caddy! (I believe those caddies do all that, right? ). I love it so much, I bought another one for my Core i5 Desktop!!!!! Very well done made far better than the new ones.
Using old Pc's Dell 740 sff I make up high performance machines. 8 gb ram 10k hard drives and GNU base os with all the systems. This device has always fit the bill. Smooth quite and fast. I use external usb 3.0 6 TB for all my loading on the PC's. When finished which takes 8 hr rebuild the machine is better than any out there. I am using this hd on my business machines and find them most reliable. Thank you sir for the great equipment. Stable, Fast, well-made.
This is the most well respected line of mechanical hard drives among gamers. Still selling strong and has some advantages over SSD still (number of re-writes, such as cache). Also on servers, network systems, and more. I'm impressed, although my experience level with this product is not strong. Just recently started using them, but I already see the difference. And, I do suggest good cooling. Putting this in a "over-the-counter" retail system that uses cases that don't worry about cooling and dust is kinda like sticking a V8 in a '74 Pinto...This is the most well respected line of mechanical hard drives among gamers.
