About this product

Product Information

A virtual style-fest from Italian horror mastermind Argento, originally released in butchered form in the US as UNSANE. Franciosa portrays Peter Neal, an American mystery novelist promoting his latest release in Rome. It's not long, however, until a killer is hot on his trail doing evil deeds which mimic those of the murderer in Neal's book. This very basic premise is executed in an exceedingly and beautifully stylized method which makes the film truly fascinating to watch. Those who do not like the sight of blood, however, should be forewarned -- it flows frequently, and in copious amounts.

  • The Sublime and The Ridiculous

This is absolutely a masterpiece of film art from the genius of Dario Argento. It must be seen by all who love suspense and horror movies and who wish to experience truly great film technique, imagery and sound. The reason I give it 4 stars rather than five is because it has a major flaw: an excessive amount of gratuitous scantily clad and unclad woman. This adds nothing to the film. It actually detracts from the horror by making the less than virtuous female victims of the killer somewhat unsympathetic. The remarkable thing about Mr. Argento's great masterpieces "Suspiria" (arguably the best horror film ever made) and "Deep Red" is that they did not use T&A in a flagrant way which I have always considered a cheap trick of poor film-makers. It so distracted me during the film, because it ...
