Fantastic for the price
I usually tend towards more treble-forward headphones (Etymotic ER-4B, Grado SR80e, etc), but I got the Porta Pros as a backup and to use while playing bass. They have some of the most natural, feel-good low end I've heard, especially at this price, at the expense of everything <3k or so being somewhat muffled and frankly boring. The superb level of comfort really redeems them as a day-to-day headphone for skype or video-watching use. Get them: - As a backup to more expensive headphones, to have another type of sound - As a budget-friendly entry into buying headphones for sound and not status - For day-long use with VOIP with comfort (they are extremely light) - To give to kids or non-audiophiles as a respectable way of listening - For travel, although the semi-open design might annoy ... quality, value, and style

Decent headphones, almost perfect.
First let me say, for headphones, I like full coverage, block out all noises, hear every detail of the music, or what ever you are listening to, kind of headphones. How ever I find that at work this is not practical for me. I have to be able to hear outside noises, interruptions, that kind of thing. Plus i can not disturb everyone else at the same time. Also not being a teenager, I also do not really care about any "cool" factor. My teenage daughter asked why I bought such ugly headphones. She listened to them, and agreed they sounded real good, but still would not be caught dead in them. At work more than one person has asked me something to the effect of "What plane you flying today?" Also they do not take as much volume level to power to a certain sound level as ... She listened to them, and agreed they sounded real good, but still would not be caught dead in them. At work more than one person has asked me something to the effect of "What plane you flying today?" Also they do not take as much volume level to power to a certain sound level as my full coverage headphones do (Sennheiser H2270's). So they do not drain the battery as fast on the MP3 player. They do fold up and mine came with a pouch to store them in, the MP3 player also fits in the pouch. But I would not say they are pocket size, purse or carry bag no problem, but would be rather bulky in a pocket. They sound really good, much better than any ear buds I have ever tried. More comfortable also, but then I am not an ear bug fan. Not near as good as my full coverage headphones, but I can also hear outside noises such as phones ringing, people calling my name, things like that. Each ear piece has a little switch that adjusts the amount each ear piece angles out. They have a firm, med. soft settings (3 settings). And I find this makes a pretty significant difference in the comfort level for me. This set on the outside of your ear, with a metal headband that puts pressure on the ear muffs, you know how they work. By adjusting this little switch on each muff, they do not bother me in the least. I was originally concerned about that, since other outside the ear headphones have been uncomfortable for me. These are not and I wear them for hours at a time. I wish the foam covering was a tad thicker, but they are fine. Now what I do not like about them. There are a few things I dislike, but these are more an annoyance than a problem. The headband always reset to it's minimum setting when you remove the headphones. It is not hard to pull them open and place them on, so it is not a big issue. The comfort settings, if you move the ear pieces inwards (liek folding them up) this resets the switches back to firm. Actually that is the only way to reset them, but when I remove the headphones, I always have to stretch the band back out, and flip the switches to soft when putting them back on. I know, it takes like 3 seconds, but it is annoying. They also have a 4 foot cable, that splits with one going to each ear piece. This might be more because of the headband design, but I like a single cable going into one ear piece, personal preference. I also would like about one foot more of cable, so I quit pulling my MP3 off the desk when I roll over to the trash can, but again, that is just me. So that is pretty much it. If I sat on these and crushed them into powder, I would buy the exact same set. To me the sound without being totally oblivious to the outside world makes it worth it.

"Blast from the Past"
After Breaking my beats solo wireless headphones I was in need for a cheap replacement. Fortunately for my retro-obsessed self Koss Porta Pros caught my attention. Here I will describe the wearing comfort as well as the sound of the Koss Porta Pros. Regarding my wearing experience: There are only two major gripes I have with the headphones. Firstly the headband on my Porta Pros always reverts back to the smallest possible size (which leads me to calibrate them every time I put them on). Secondly the area where the left cable cord and the driver meet clicks every time force moves the cord. Other than that the headphones stay on even with the most intense of headbanging. The comfort zone is also effective at reliving pressure if the drivers press too firmly on ones ears. The headphones are ... Concerning the sound: The best way to describe the sound of the Porta Pros is "Pseudo-Vinyl" as the headphones add a low-fi warmth to your sound. Now I am not a seasoned audiophile but I'll try my best to describe the aural characteristics: The bass is tight and sounds very pleasant with kick bass and synth bass. The middle range sounds somewhat muffled when compared to the clarity of Bose headphones. The same can be said with the treble range. For all intents and purposes the Porta Pros are best used for giving an 80s-esque semi-modern flavor to sound. Personally I prefer more clarity but I can work with what the headphones have to offer since the sound is kinda cool. Overall the build quality really influences the sound and wearing experience of the headphones. And people aren't going to dig the eighties look like I do. But despite all of this, the sonic characteristics of the Koss Porta Pros can go toe to toe with the likes of significantly more expensive headphones on the market. Ultimately the Koss Porta Pros posses a lot of bang for your buck.

Best less than $75 headphones I've ever owned. Much more comfortable than most earbuds. The volume controls have tiny little buttons, but work fine. The mic seems to pic up fine. When adjusting the size while on your head, they do grab hair. Improvement suggestions include improving the band over the head so its more comfortable and doesn't grab hair, and make them wireless.
