    OSCAR WORTHY CINEMA- may be Black & While but the performances are SPARKLING SHINY GOLD!

    THIS FILM is PURE HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY at its BEST. Hepburn, Tracy, Lanbury---the PLOT is magnificent and STILL VERY RELEVANT about Politics, Media, Society, Power and Corruption of the Human Spirit. I wept, watching it with absolute joy. Saw this on channel 12, PBS classic films on Sundays when I was a little girl. It moved me then. It moves me now. FUNNY. SMART. ROMANTIC. SOCIAL COMMENTARY. INTERESTING. MOVING. They DON'T make movies like this anymore. They DON'T tell stories like this anymore. Stars/Actors like these do NOT exist anymore. If your want to match an intelligent, entertaining film----watch this.

    Art Imitates Life

    This film is not only the usual Frank Capra classic of people triumphing over human frailty and having character win, it has special significance this election year. There are so very many similarities to what is taking place right now in the presidential primaries that its uncanny. I can only hope we get even half as close to what happened in this film.

    Frank Capra Gem

    You hardly see this Hepburn/Tracy movie shown anymore on TV. A real shame! This 1948 Frank Capra spoof puts the American political process on display. It is a comedy/drama that casts Tracy as Grant Matthews, a Republican nominee for U.S. President. He's an industrialist who struggles to keep up his integrity. Hepburn plays his estranged wife, who is also his conscience, and pretends that all is well between them for the sake of enhancing his image so he can win the election. I love Angela Lansbury as the sexy, power-hungry millionairess who is backing Tracy and Van Johnson as the cynical campaign manager. All around great movie!
