About this product

Product Information

An original history of man's greatest adventure: his search to discover the world around him. In the compendious history, Boorstin not only traces man's insatiable need to know, but also the obstacles to discovery and the illusion that knowledge can also put in our way. Covering time, the earth and the seas, nature and society, he gathers and analyzes stories of the man's profound quest to understand his world and the cosmos.

Book was listed as in "Very Good" condition. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was more in a "Like New" condition. Very pleased about this. Not so thrilled about paying US$53.94 + tax for the book. This has nothing to do with the seller. This is a rare item and this price would be considered a bargain price seeing that it is almost impossible to find a copy of this used book anywhere else. Great transaction. Well packed for shipping too. Thank you!

  • Incredibly well written

My 17 -year- old daughter is reading this for her homeschool class, level 4 Classical Conversations. It is so interesting and compelling. She doesn't enjoy studying but reading this book is more entertainment than studying.

  • Great deal.

Great book. Informative and insightful. I have the book on audio, but realized it was sch a good starting point for further reseaerch, I purchased.

  • A story of how knowledge was collected

I have purchase about 10 of these books and have passed them out. My friends have commented that this book was one of the most influential books that they had read. The chapters are independent and can be read in any order. There are chapters on medicine, microscopic things, the use of telescopes, the invention and use of clocks, and the development of interest in history - early historic and prehistoric. It tells of how many misconceptions were passed down for ages because regard for early leaders. It tells of how the printing press was developed and how the inventor was rewarded for his work. Very easy to read and interesting
