Product Information

A beautifully wrought, passionately evoked novel of early America. "Into The Wilderness" is a masterpiece of romantic fiction, and the debut of a remarkable new author. This beautifully wrought, passionately evoked novel of early America is a masterpiece of romantic fiction -- and the debut of a remarkable new author. Not since Diana Gabaldon has an author captured a time and a place and a love affair with so much mastery. From the opening page, the reader is transported to another world, swept away by the passions of two unforgettable lovers. The novel revolves around the forbidden, incandescent affair of a spinster Englishwoman and an American frontiersman. When Elizabeth Middleton leaves England to join her father and brother in the remote mountain village of Paradise in New York, she does so with a strong will and an unwavering purpose: to teach school. It is December of 1792 when she arrives in a cold climate unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a man different from any she has ever encountered -- a white man dressed like a native. His name is Nathaniel Bonner, also known to the Mohawk people as "Between Two Lives". Elizabeth's ultimate destiny, here in the heart of the wilderness, lies in the odyssey to come: trials of faith and flesh, and passion born amid Nathaniel's own secrets and divided soul.

"My favorite kind of book is the sort you live in, rather than read.Into the Wildernessis one of those rare stories that let you breathe the air of another time, and leave your footprints on the snow of a wild, strange place. I can think of no better adventure than to explore the wilderness in the company of such engaging and independent lovers as Elizabeth and her Nathaniel."-Diana Gabaldon "Each time you open a book you hope to discover a story that will make your spirit of adventure and romance sing. • Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati

If you are a fan of historical fiction stories, you can't help but enjoy this book. There are five books in the "Wilderness" series and each one is a page turner. One day, just before Christmas, I was browsing eBay's book catagory and stumbled onto a review of Sara Donati's books, written by Diana Gabaldon, and was instantly sure that I needed these books. I am a devoted fan of Ms. Gabaldon, and if she likes it, then I'm positive I will enjoy it also. The story is a Frontier America adventure/love story, taking place in up-state New York, and covering several generations. You cannot help but become involved with the Donner family. I bought "Wilderness" as a gift, but once I had the book in my hands I was loathe to part with it, ergo, I now have all five of them, and my daughter has ...

  • Awesome, as usual!!!

In the process of reading this great book. I lived in the mountains of Colorado. . . yes, still wilderness, so I feel like I'm still there as I turn each page. Love all Sara Donati's characters, so highly recommend this read, as well as her other books!!!

  • Excellent read!

When I'd heard that Gabaldon, whose writing I all but worship, had given it kudos, I couldn't wait to read it. Since then I have read ALL of Donati's books of this series. Can't get enough. If you like American historical fiction, I can't recommend these enough.
