    "Freedom Song," by Sweet Honey in the Rock

    To my mind, Sweet Honey in the Rock has some of the best voices and best music on the planet, and they express views with which I am in total agreement. That said, the rather strident songs on this album are not what I want to listen to for pure listening pleasure -- but I bought it for three meltingly beautiful pieces that I dearly love: "Jonah's last day," "Po' Pilgrim of Sorrow, and "The students of Quinlan." I also really like the mournful "This May Be the Last Time." For these four songs it was well worth the price, and the others are there to remind us of the heroic struggles that finally won freedom in that most amazing and dramatic success in South Africa.
