    Inspirational

    I purchased this book as a gift for a friend. I have a copy of the book and have read it, and enjoyed it so much that I did not want to turn loose of my copy. As the title implies, it is the story of Clarence Thomas from his own perspective. It is written with great humility. I say this because nearly 30 years ago I had read a biography on Clarence Thomas, and that book espoused his accomplishments in much greater detail than this book. This book is about life, that it is not always fair, how to make the most of it and how to draw upon the deep spiritual connections within us that are gifts from God, using Justice Thomas's experiences as a framework.

    My Grandfather's Son

    This book hit the shelves Oct. 1, 2007. I immediately went to the store to buy it. To my surprise most of my local vendors didn't have it. I did find one store that had one copy. I was very pleased to get it. I was even more pleased after reading it. It's not the most well written book, nonetheless, it wasn't hard to read. Justice Thomas was very informative and open in this memoir. He shed light on himself and his family. He also expressed his personal views and feelings regarding the Anita Hill allegations. But most importantly, this memoir was a real life example of someone living the "American Dream". Regardless of one's personal views or opinions about Justice Clarence Thomas, this memoir is worth the read. If for no other reason, to get a different perspective of who the Justice ...

    Phenominal read!!!

    I read every day, so I go through a lot of books. This is in the top ten books I've read this year. It is stunning in its story, its readability, and every other measure by which one gauges a book's worth. I can't recommend it highly enough. Every person of every ethnicity should be required to read this.

    A black Southern boy becomes a judge

    I have a real interest in biographies, and I read this book as a companion to the autobiography of Booker T. Washington, Up From Slavery. Clarence Thomas and Booker T. Washington share a thread of history that only they can tell. Both men lived in a dirt floor shack growing-up. From there they attained greatness. My Grandfather's Son lays bare the facts of Judge Thomas' life. He does not drop names to impress or kiss and tell. Thank you Judge! This book is well written and articulate. It kept my interest throughout. I am a Southerner. I remember the racial tension in the 60's, but I was a pretty small kid at the time. This book gives a taste of that era and of what it meant to be one angry Black man.

    My Grandfather's Son by Clarence Thomas (2007)

    Great Read! What an awesome and inspiring story of someone with the "guts" to overcome those who told him "the man" was never going to let him be successful! I guess, since I'm a Southern white, I would have been considered part of "the Man" group, but this is one white man who has learned a great deal from someone who grew up with much less opportunity than I, and further, extremely proud of Clarence Thomas and what he has been able to achieve. May he inspire everyone as he shares the hurdles he had to jump in order to get where he is today. There is a conflicting story, even today after the book is written, as to the infamous Anita Hill saga. It's left up to each one of us as to where we will come down on that one, after we've heard "the rest of the story."
