Dial cord driven radio sets became the industry standard during the era of high-end tube radio sets. Many radio sets were still manufactured using circular dials which was simplistic and inexpensive. The cord driven pointer moved along the straight frequency indicator plane gave radio sets the aesthetic that was pleasing to the eye. The straight frequency indicator plane is still used today in inexpensive radios, but the use of a dial cord became historic.
