Where to go when the world is going to be destroyed?
Do you love british comedy? Have you read the "Douglas Adams' trilogy"? You will not be disappointed. What do you do when your world is about to be destroyed to make a hyperspace bypass and you find out that your friend is an alien. Then sit down with a friend and take a journey to the stars and have laugh. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a blast.

I am sure that with months of intelectualization you could come up with some very deep meanings and messages from this film, but... Idon't know why you would try! The truth is this movie is a just good clean mindless fun. A great break from the powerful messages displayed by people like Shyamalan or Spielberg. This is a movie you can kick back and just enjoy. Oh... by the way if it does not make sense the first dozen times: I think that is the point! Sit back, strap in and get ready for some good solis british comedy. It's a known fact that the movie adaptation of Hitchhiker's has been up in the air for some years now. Passing from the hands of one director to the next (James Cameron, Spike Jonze and Jay Roach), it wasn't until the idea landed in front of Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith that things truly started to take shape. Douglas Adams died from a heart attack in 2001, but after reading the books, watching the film and drawing a comparison, it's clear that Adams would've accepted this adaptation of the TV series of the computer game of the radio series wholeheartedly. Martin Freeman is an inspired choice as the face of Arthur Dent. He's an everyman, his slightly vacant, permanently confused facial expression (which we've all come to recognise from his role ... And stupider. Admittedly, it would've been nice to see more English talent taking on the roles from Adams' well loved creation. Steven Fry is THE Guide, the quintessential voice of logic and good-humoured reasoning in the Universe. Bill Nighy makes a great Slartibartfast, coming across as the kindly, if a little absent minded, genius that I've always imagined. And Alan Rickman providing his nasal drones to Marvin the Paranoid Android worked to near perfection. That's not to say that the American cast isn't great. Mos Def and Zooey Deschanel are excellent as Ford Prefect and Trillian, but it's obvious that it's Sam Rockwell who's having all the fun, relishing his role as the over-excitable, reminiscently hippie-rockstar Ex-President of the Galaxy, Zaphod Beeblebrox. So all in all, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a great experience. Non-Adamites will love it, as will the die hard fans. It's such a shame that its creator had to bow out before his beloved creation came to life, but due to his input into the movie script (the character Humma Kavula, played by John Malkovich, was written by him especially for the movie), his enthusiasm still lives on. Want to go to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe now, please.

What's not to love??? hmmm....
The first time I watched this I hated it, but something told me to watch it again. Let's just say that the second, third, and fourth times I watched it, I enjoyed it. Positives: 1)Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy creates the very definition to the word "unique." You never really know what weird thing is going to pop up next(I haven't read the book, so everything in the movie was new to me.) It keeps you interested all the way through, though there are some slow times. 2)The dolphins at the beggining crack me up every time. The whole song and dance routine makes me hysterical(though I'm not quite sure why:) 3)Original story, "some" good characters, love the robot. Negatives: 1)The concept of the Vogons is pretty funny, but the actual ... The first time I watched this I hated it, but something told me to watch it again. Conclusion: This is not a huge hit, and probably not even a small hit, but the unique and fun areas in this movie make it "good" to me. This good, though, is far from excellent.

I had a nuerosurgeon perform 3 back- To-Back emergency surgeries, days of isolation, 4 months in the hospital (icu & private rooms) 6 weeks in a rehab specialty hospital.
