  • A remake that actually stands as tall as the original

First off I am not exactly what you would call a big fan of movie remakes. There have been so many bad ones released either in the theatre or on television, with only a few that can actually stand up to the originals - well at least in my opinion. That said, rather than list all of the "bad" movie remakes, I prefer to promote this surprisingly excellent version of the original "Psycho". If you're a Hitchcock fanatic then you more than likely would put the original "Psycho" near the top of your favorite Hitchcock film list (wouldn't you?). Personally I love the original version - a real classic; but I enjoyed the remake so much that I decided to add it to my collection. Underrated actor Vince Vaughn delivers what I would describe as a very CREEPY performance as the infamous 'Norman ...

  • Not Up To Par

With the original I hated the remake of the house..the original house was much more creepy looking from the outside..Also I am not a big Anne Heche Fan the Girl just can't act..Vince Vaugn did a great job though with what he was given...kudos to him! This dvd is a bit misleading when I ordered this I thought it was the original because of the collectors edition comment on the front..I was disappointed that it wasn't the original yet I still rather enjoyed this remake..Marion Crane steals a pile of money and runs away she meets up with Norman Bates and his Mother what happens next is a true testement to the brilliance of Alfred Hitchcock..Though the sexual innuendo in this film did take away from the Norman Bates character alot..I give this film 4 out of 5 bars!

  • Trivia nuggets for this movie

The exterior motel set was the same one used in the original Psycho (1960). However, the house was a new set constructed directly in front of the old house on the backlot at Universal Studios. On completion of filming, they moved this second house alongside the first for the backlot tour. Nicole Kidman and 'Drew Barrymore' were considered for the role of Marion. Kidman could not fit it in due to a scheduling conflict and Barrymore was turned down for being too young to star opposite Vince Vaughn.

  • Kind of slow

I watched bates motel, the series. I watched this again because the last season coming up will be based on the movie. This movie was kind of boring.

  • Maybe I'm the onlyone but I think it's better then the original.

This film is an exact copy of the original. The reason that this was done was to introduce the newer generations to a great movie. Apparently, many younger viewers refuse to watch black and white films. Well, "Psycho" was a great film and was made to meet today's demands. Most every scene is the same and at the same pace. Thus the plot and most aspects are the same as the original. I prefer Vince Vaughn to Anthony Perkins in the role of 'Norman Bates'. The only 2 instances that I feel were better in in the original are: the house above the motel, and not choosing another actress over Anne Hasch (sp?). Basic plot: Woman steals money, goes on the lame, buys new car, ends up at the hotel run by a psycho. It's supposes to be loosely based on a guy named Ed Gein. [This was, ...
