The whole neighborhood is enjoying this gift!
We purchased this for 2 newly arrived German boys in our neighborhood. We have always loved this story and thought they might enjoy learning some songs in English. Now we hear our entire mixed language neighborhood kids singing "Me and My Arrow" while they play. Just the pure joy of being a child. Wonderful!

A wonderful movie with an enduring message for all ages
I remember this movie when it first came out in the early '70s. I fell in love with all of the quirky characters. It doesn't hurt either if your also a fan of Ringo Starr, and an even bigger fan of Harry Nilsson. Nilsson gives his soundtrack a child-like innocence. Mike Lookinland was perfectly cast as the voice of Oblio. The story of alienation has been told so many times and in so many forms, but this film makes a great case, or point if you will, about respecting one's individuality and differences. I bought this movie several years ago for my daughter and now my son loves to watch too. I recently picked it up in the DVD format. The fact that you can still find it so easily is an attestation of it's timeless message to humanity; that people are still finding the need to understand ... Get "the point"
The point is a musical animation feature that originated from the album of the same title created in 1971. It was one of my first record purchases back in my high school days. I loved it because it was not only musical genius, in my opinion; it had a message of tolerance and diversity. Harry Nilsson was under rated as a musician most likely because he never performed a concert in which he was paid for, a fact he was very proud of. He had a three octave voice and a very clever with that came through in his songs. I purchased the movie and album on e-bay to pass the musical experience off to my children because the great songs and the message it drives home. Great back in the 70's, Great today!
I never saw the movie that this story was written for, but the music was captivating back in the early seventies. The songs were catchy and easy to relate to in real life. Oblio, the main character faced discrimination because he was different. He was banned from his home, along with his dog, Arrow. Together they went on adventure after adventure, overcoming all obstacles and returned home a hero. He was a hero because he showed that everyone had a point and was not going to let anyone throw him away for being different. You have to listen to the songs to appreciate the brilliance of these songs. The movie is geared to young children, but the songs will appeal to any adult. Harry Neilson's compilation is a timeless story, simply yet eloquently told, and perfect for children of all ages, and the child in all of us. It's graceful, comforting, adventuresome,and uniquely fresh,in that it brings one to center about the really important issues of acceptance, tolerance, openness and self-esteem, and, of course, joy. I saw this as a special on TV in 1971, bought the "record" and eventually recorded it to pass on to my son(now 29) before the vinyl was completely worn out. Whenever I attend a baby shower, diapers and "The Point" DVD are my standards. Babies are mesmerized, and so are their parents. I wish Harry Neilson would have lived longer - no telling what wonderful things he could have done.
