Product Information

In his acclaimed Codex Alera novels, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher has created a fascinating world in which the powerful forces of nature take physical form. But even magic cannot sway the corruption that threatens to destroy the realm of Alera once and for all... When the power-hungry High Lord of Kalare launches a merciless rebellion against the First Lord, young Tavi of Calderon joins a newly formed legion under an assumed name. And when the ruthless Kalare allies himself with a savage enemy of the realm, Tavi finds himself leading an inexperienced, poorly equipped legion--the only force standing between Alera and certain doom...

  • The Codex Alera

Having been a Jim Butcher fan for years I decided to try his 6 book Codex Alera series. Why did I wait? Basically it's a Game Of Thrones type saga but grounded in a Roman Empire-esque world. That is to say, while magic replaces normal skills, the story is really Roman politics and societal living. The series follows our hero Tavi (Octavius) and this book is where he's starting to come into his own. Spies, battles, love, loyalty, political intrique, and betrayal, it's all here. Enjoy.

  • Cursor's Fury

I first found Jim Butcher by reading the Harry Dresden series, which I love. I have read and re-read them. The characters are very believeable, and the action is non-stop. Only in Tolkien have I found battle descriptions as descriptive and exciting as the ones in these books. The characters are very well defined, and believable. Although the book can be read on its own, I recommend that it be read as part of the Codex Alera series, beginning with the Furies of Calderon. The only problems I have with ...
