  • West from Home by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Just finished reading West from Home: Letters of Laura Ingalls Wilder and for anyone who is as fascinated by the San Francisco Pan-Pacific Exposition of 1915 as I am, this is an awesome read.. Many pictures of the fair are also included. The letters are copies of what she sent home to her husband while see was visiting her daughter in the summer of 1915. They provide a keen insight in to what was happening in the city of San Francisco and the fair during her stay. Keep in mind that 1915 was only 9 years after the devastating earthquake of 1906 and the amazing resilience and tenacity of the city and its people are definitely highlighted in her letters. I highly recommend this book.

  • Learning more about Laura Ingalls Wilder

I'm 77 and read all the Little House books when I was in 4th and 5th grade. I loved them and made sure I got them for my two daughters. I have been getting them for a great grand daughter and this book ends the series. I had not read "West From Home" and devoured it in one evening. I know for sure that she made at least one more trip to California. She visited my fifth grade classroom in 1953 or 1954 when my family lived in Los Angeles. I remember her as a little tiny lady in a long black coat. I Googled her biography and learned that her work had been re-published by a new company in 1953 and her visiting my school would have tied in nicely with trip to promote her books.

  • A nice read to in which to end.

For any Laura Ingalls Wilder fan, these were her letters. Her writings to her husband and saved so she could tell him more when she returned. It was a nice reading to end with and add to our Wilder collection of books.
