About this product

Product Information

In 1976 twenty-six California children were kidnapped from their school bus and buried alive for motives never explained. All the children survived. This bizarre event signaled the beginning of Lenore Terr's landmark study on the effect of trauma on children. In this book Terr shows how trauma has affected not only the children she's treated but all of us.

  • A wealth of information about childhood trauma

The author discusses the issues of Childhood Trauma in the context of an actual mass kidnapping in California in the seventies, as well as assorted individual trauma cases. The cases, her interpretation of the child's responses to trauma, and findings are well worth the time investment required to read this book from cover to cover. Dr. Terr is obviously an authority on the subject. That said, the material is presented in a novel format, which makes it very difficult to be able to follow, let alone highlight and reference in the context of a class review of actual symptoms and results of trauma. The author also adds literary and pop culture references. Although interesting, these tangents make the material even more difficult to follow. "Too Scared to Cry" is a page turner in the ...

  • Interesting read

This book looks at Childhood Trauma and analzyes it in a way that I have never read before. The author is a professional who has been in the field for years and has the opportunity to work with a lot of different individuals. I enjoy that the book includes examples of various traumatic events that children have had experienced and how these events have influenced them later in life. Sometimes the information can be a bit dense but it is well worth reading.
