    We enjoyed the first edition for several trips to East Africa but that copy was now some twenty years old and getting tattered. We appreciated the work by Stevenson and Fanshawe and more than one of our safari guides also used the same. And, as we were contemplating a return to East Africa for 2023 I ordered the Second edition. It arrived and I am quite pleased with it. Covers some 1,448 species with 3,500 color images on 289 plates which are beautiful. Included are a number of changes in common names and even alternative common names. Range maps now include major rivers and highland areas (above 2,000 meters). Plus, three colors and two hash schemes better reflect seasonal and yearly residents and breeding areas.
