You find an apprentice to work as slave labor, and that's what Death, who was getting sick of the daily grind, did. His choice of apprentice? A bookish young lad, composed entirely of knees and elbows, named Mort, who didn't know what he was getting into when he accepted the position. Oh, he knew he was going to apprentice for Death, but he never dreamed that Death would immediately begin encouraging a love connection between Mort and his daughter (someone's gotta take over the family business, right?)!
