Eagerly anticipated by her legions of fans, this sixth novel in Diana Gabaldon's bestselling Outlander saga is a masterpiece of historical fiction from one of the most popular authors of our time. Since the initial publication ofOutlanderfifteen years ago, Diana Gabaldon'sNew York Timesbestselling saga has won the hearts of readers the world over - and sold more than twelve million books. Now,A Breath of Snow and Ashescontinues the extraordinary story of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest. With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence - with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping fromThe Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie's death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future. From the Hardcover edition.

"The sixth instalment of the adventures of Claire and Jamie Fraser, already number one on the bestseller list, is a whopping 980 pages of action-packed escapism. It also has surprisingly melancholy and insightful views on the experience of growing old and dealing with the losses that entails…. One of the things that sets Gabaldon apart from other romance writers is exhaustive research of the times in which her characters live, so evident in her attention to period detail…. plot lines and stand-alone yarns are expertly woven together with the overall theme of impending doom and the question of predetermination." -The Toronto Star "Fans of Diana Gabaldon's popular Outlander series have another rousing historical-science-fiction-romance novel to savour inA Breath of Snow and Ashes…. Wonderful larger paperback version in excellent shape

Love this book. I read it a few years ago but wanted the larger paperback version for ease of reading. The Outlander series is a wonderful epic.

  • For Historical Fiction/Romance/Fantasy Fans, This is a Must Read.

It is my private opinion that Diana Gabaldon does not know how to write mediocre or sub-standard work. This is the Sixth book in the Outlander series and it packed a punch. It offers authentic historical backdrop, adventure, intrigue, gut-wrenching tragedy, laugh out loud with and situations, unforgettable characters, and heartwarming romance. I sound like a cliched ad, but I just cannot help the superlatives. The saga continues with Jamie and Claire with their family and friends living on Fraser's Ridge in the dawn of the American Revolution. Events unfold that force Jamie into officially taking a stance for freedom that is fraught with danger. He must some how steer his family through the powder keg of entanglements that threaten in their corner of N.C. There is a mysterious 'ghost' who ...

  • Woops

It’s soft cover full size (I wanted regular paperback). Has nothing to do with the content tho. It’s an excellent book if you’re reading the series!

  • what you see is what you get

The book cover is a little tattered, but there is nothing wrong with the pages. The price, with shipping, was more than fair for a used book. This book is a good read; definitely one of the more exciting chapters in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.

  • Wonderful, Amazing Series

I started reading this series when a relative gave me the first book. As soon as I finished it, I knew this was a series I would follow the whole way through and that I needed to own for myself. The writing is engaging and interesting, the story is compelling, and the characters are beyond description. This is a historical series, with some flash-forwards to the present time, but the style of Gabaldon's writing has a contemporary feel. The books are long, but that's actually really good because you don't want any of them to end!
