Excellent, with a few minor caveats
The camera is fantastic. It shoots excellent photos and decent quality video. However, it lacks many of the features introduced in the next iteration (Hero 3+) which limit its usefulness in some situations. In anything above 1080p it is fixed as a wide-angle shot, the ProTune software lacks the profiles for color correction (which must therefore be done manually), and it doesn't have a viewscreen. However the trade-off is significant - the Hero 3 Black has arguably the best built-in mic of any in the Hero series, it has better battery life than newer models, and it allows users to easily connect an external microphone for even better sound quality. Overall this was an absolute bargain and a completely worthwhile purchase.The camera is fantastic. It shoots excellent photos and decent quality video. Unfortunate Experience.
Upon video playback there is a high pitch constant beep both on the computer and the device. I returned the item and will actually purchase another one as this is a good deal hard to pass. Hopefully there will not be the same problem.

To carry on your backpack, is awesome.
The GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition produces some of the best -- if not the best -- video we've seen from an action cam. Its abundant resolution and frame rate options will satisfy beginners and experienced shooters. The Bad Navigating the on-camera settings menus still isn't the best experience. Battery life can be brief depending on the features you're using. Plan to buy accessories including a microSD card. The Bottom Line Like the Hero3, the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition's strongest attributes are its excellent video quality and impressive list of shooting options. If that's what matters most to you, this is the action cam to get. Great little camera with a lot of kick
I love the gopro hero3 black edition, bought the pro hero3 silver edition earlier... but wanted a more in depth visual, better slow motion effects. I do highly recommend getting the touchscreen bac pack on this, so you can see what you are filming & go thru menu options better. It's also good to invest in the many options of wearing your gopro or mounting. Only gripe I have with this is the battery life, & if you use the extended battery pac, you add on dimension to camera... I like the convenience of small portability. I'm impressed with the quality of video & pictures of the gopro...I highly recommend.I love the gopro hero3 black edition, bought the pro hero3 silver edition earlier... but wanted a more in depth visual, better slow motion effects. HERO3 is an average camera with exceptional features in a small package.
For a sports camera in well lit areas the camera shines. This is the selling point of the gopro and they listened to their audience. Low lit areas with the hero3 are hit/miss. Good luck. Sound quality is fair with the case removed. The target market will most likely be replacing the recorded audio with a musical sound track so its not a deal breaker for most. If however you want to record anything other than sports to where you want to hear what people are saying, an external microphone is needed for any serious vocal recording. You will need to purchase another mic friendly case for your hero3 and the optional usb to 3.5mm mic adapter. This sets you back an additional 50-75. When you include a microphone your looking at 150 easy. I must say there are allot of features crammed into ... For a sports camera in well lit areas the camera shines.
