The Fall: drug addiction, misery, and the consequences

There is a term for what this film is, misery porn. This film starts out on a minor note and just gets more depressing as it goes on. As someone who has dealt with addiction on a personal level as well as those close to me I found this incredibly difficult to watch. These character I know and seeing how the spiral downward happens was heartbreaking. The best hope is that they can recover from their addiction and move on, however with the way this film ends seems to imply that it would not be the case. On a film level I have to praise the accuracy to how addiction can affect people. But the editing is erratic, overdone, and impressive. Though the consequences of drug use by all 4 characters in Requiem for a Dream are horrific and horrifying, the movie still infuses the drug culture with a glamour and an excitement it doesn't deserve. In Requiem there is the glamorous high finance of drug dealing and beautiful people engaged in quirky, stylish self-immolation. There is the loss of ...

  • Wasn't what I expected, but it was still pretty good.

Rather a sad story, but the actors and actresses did a good job selling it.
