Joan Collins stars in this this tense study of paranoia set in a boy's prep school that has pervasive surrealistic qualities. In it, a young woman (Geeson) who has recently suffered a nervous breakdown moves with her husband to a rural English boarding school. However, her nerves are not assuaged when she meets the school's intimidating headmaster (Cushing) and his vampy wife (Collins). Unfortunately, Geeson's tension only gets worse when she finds herself being stalked and harassed by a one-armed man who seems to be a deranged psychotic. Unable to convince anyone that what is happening to her is real, Geeson begins to suspect her husband of trying to kill her until one night of almost unbearable terror that reveals a secret more shocking than anything she could have imagined.

The Fugitive meets Please Sir...
Judy Geeson plays Peggy, a young woman recovering from a breakdown, who is preparing to move to her new husband's (played by Ralph Bates) home when she is attacked in her flat by a man with a prosthetic arm. On arriving at the new house, which stands in the grounds of her teacher husband's school, she meets the headmaster (Peter Cushing) and soon starts to realise that nothing is quite what it seems... This is quite a curious little film from Hammer and to be honest, good as it is, it does feel more like an episode of the Hammer House of Horror tv series than a full blown theatrical feature. Peter Cushing is not used very much in the film and his wife (Joan Collins) is also hardly on screen, despite being a major character in the plot. The star names aren't given that much to do and the ... If you like psychological thrillers you should enjoy the film, although you can see the twist coming from a mile off. It is a decent little movie though and Cushing, with seemingly much less screen time than either of the two leads, manages to steal the film with his performance. I can think of worse Hammers you could fill a couple of hours with and it's well worth giving Fear in the Night a try if you've not seen it before.

Classic Peter Cushing
Peter Cushing is great in this, always the smartest person in the room. Glad I got a hold of this because a lot of these Hammer dvds are always hard to find, especially in great condition.
