Small and light with good image quality

For me, this camera is very practical, easy to use, good image quality and resistant. I recommend it.

  • Fine Camera But Now Obsolete

The camera itself is fine but it has become obsolete. This is my fourth one and they all are used regularly. A so-called "better" camera has its uses, especially where one must make frequent setting changes, but we use these set the same all the time. They edit perfectly in Adobe's Premiere Pro CS programs. Now days you'd get a camera with removable memory and it will likely use a different codec, but this model functions well and is compatible with the Canon 7D.

  • Nice for a Hobby with Pro features but not for a Professional Indie shooter

I owned and used this camera for yr before selling it. The CCD developed white dots (hot spots) and was a pain to get rid of in post. Colors where off and required hours of grading to get a natual feel. Moving from dark to light was a chour. It took forever to auto adjust, better to cur before and start after for indie shooters. The files are not edit friendly. You have to first convert the files then import them to your favorite editor. The lack of adjusting audio makes it a no go for Professional use. Todays Mirrorless cameras may be a better suite. If you can score one for under two hun then it may be work just to have the ability for long recordings (60GB). Other than that, pass on this

  • Excellent HD camera with a slight file extension inconvenience.

I have had this camera for eight years and it has not disappointed. It followed me while I was stationed on a Navy nuclear submarine and successfully recorded many of my memorable experiences. I agree that the ".TOD" file extensions used by JVC are inconvenient and unnecessary, but alas, there is an easy fix. ".TOD" is actually the same as ".M2TS" which is a widely popular and regularly accepted AVCHD multiplexing codec. Simply change your ".TOD" file extensions to ".M2TS" and you can successfully work with the JVC GZ-HD7's files in almost any non-linear editor (NLE). Overall, it's a great camera with outstanding picture quality for the price. Like any camcorder, it will always benefit you to spend the extra dough on an external mic. Otherwise this camera has been a wonderful ...

  • Excellent entry-level HD camera for the curious pro!

Very nifty little camcorder. Once you get past the proprietary video format, it is a breeze to use. Tons of useful features and the quality is amazing. If you can find a bargain under $500 it is worth a try, even if you just use it for family projects.
