  • Lovely Imagery and Good Characterization

I purchased this book because I had read/heard that it was THE book to read over the summer. I found it to be well-written with lovely imagery and good characterization. I consider a book to be very good if it is hard to put down and you feel a connection with the characters. This was the case with State of Wonder. However, I found the whole premise of 73 year old women getting pregnant a bit "out there" (by eating tree bark??!!) but again, it is a work of fiction. This is a fast read type of book. I would recommend it, mainly to female readers, who enjoy works by authors like Alice Hoffman. I was a bit disappointed in the ending. I had hoped for a happier "connection" for the main character and I felt terrible about what happened to the young boy, Easter. It definitely leaves ...

  • Fascinating Book, great reading!

I read another book by Ann Patchett Bel Canto, which was totally thrilling and hard to put down. She is a wonderful story teller and I have read the Magician's Assistant with great pleasure, though I think it would be hard to equal Bel Canto. State of wonder is the third boo by her and it is, as the others, v ery well written and kept my interest to the end. Since I have enjoyed all her books, I shall continue seeking out the books that I do not know yet.

  • An "odd" book but worth reading

This book was one of my Book Club choices. I purchased it through Ebay because I could get it quickly and pay a reasonable price. The book was in "new" condition. It's not one I'd normally choose to read. It's a rather odd story but does keep you interested in finishing to book. To give you an idea, think about women being able to have children well into their seventies or beyond. Hope this peaks your curiosity!

  • The description is deceiving

The description of book states it's a hard cover book, but it is not, it's a soft cover book.

  • wonderful wonder

loved this book. the amount of detail about a place i have never been to is astonishing. her writing is beautiful. like a long poem that evolves through time and thought as the character changes. loved it. always looking for new original writers. i read 2-3 books a week. :0
