Steep learning curve, will not perform seamlessly on first go, but great tool in the end.
There are a lot of great things about the cameo, but a LOT of troubleshooting is required to get started. You cannot use this in a medium or low light setting, or it will cut curves crooked. I have to shine a light directly into the machine to get it to work properly, and it took me a week of frustration and lost materials to figure out that was what was wrong (and not a single tutorial or help session with Silhouette mentioned this as a possible issue--only figured the problem after browsing for HOURS in a forum on another site). The pre-set settings for many materials are all wrong, even the materials that come with the machine. (I learned to drop the force and speed settings, and only increase gradually until you find the optimal settings.) I still haven't figured out if all the things ... I still haven't figured out if all the things I wanted to do with the cameo are actually possible--the materials for the machine claim that you can cut up to 3mm chipboard, but I haven't been successful yet, and not a single tutorial has helped me fix the problem. That doesn't mean I won't figure it out eventually but in the mean time, it can be a pain when trying something new. BUT. Once you get the problems solved and get going, you can create so many great things with it. I'm successfully cutting vinyl now, and using sketch pens, and creating things damn close to works of art. It's miles better than trying to do these things by hand--it just wouldn't be possible for me.
