Certainly not the "Dark Knight," but that's NOT a bad thing.
This is the entire first season of "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." For those not in the know, this is an extremely lighthearted cartoon in the vein of the Adam West-era 1960s Batman television show. Batman (voiced by Diedrich Bader, doing his best Kevin Conroy impression) is the focus here, not Bruce Wayne. The stories are simple: Batman teams up with a different hero every week to take on the villains. Along the way they have adventures and misadventures due to some character's flaw (Aquaman is brave and courageous, but a lout. The Blue Beetle is powerful but unsure of himself. The Green Arrow is nearly Batman's equal but more competitive. Et al). Don't expect DC's "A-List" lineup: Most of these characters are strictly golden and silver age comic book characters that you don't see very ... This is the entire first season of "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." The stories are often inspired by goofy golden and silver age Batman comics, and the animation is appropriately bright and colorful to match. It's well put-together, to be sure. The jokes are, in short, hilarious. The sheer amount of talented voice actors makes every delivery a delight. Adults and comic book fans who can see it for what it is will have a great time, but this cartoon is still appropriate for young children. My nephew seems to like Batman, so I'm purchasing this copy for him -- he's probably too young to realize that it's supposed to be humorous, but this show is good enough to let me enjoy watching it with him.
