Big Ideas Made Accessible Through Humor!
This book is fabulous. Lots of people talk about the Constitution but how many of us really know what's in there? I feel strongly that as a part of our citizenship of the United States we need to have an understanding of the Constitution. For my older kids we are studying each piece of the Constitution one clause at a time, but for my younger ones that is just too intense. This book fills that gap. It covers the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States. This was the last piece of the Constitution that was written (allowing the founding fathers to hammer out the details and then figure out how to express the overarching goals and ideas of our Constitution.) This book makes those big ideas accessible to kids. The pictures are drawn to express the realities of these ideas in a ... This book is fabulous. David Catrow has long been one of my favorite children's illustrators and when I saw that he had made this book, I was very excited. As a political cartoonist he has a special interest in the protections provided to him by the Constitution. The Constitution of the United States is the longest instituted document to govern a country in the world. That is pretty impressive. This book opens the window to understanding it's power and importance.

Every American should know the Bill of Rights by heart...if only so that we know enough to keep the gov't in line! This book can be used to teach children (and their parents!) the Bill in a fun and painless way.... just read it as a bedtime or snuggletime book several times, and your munchkins will be reciting James Madison's masterpiece with no trouble.
