Synopsis
The Kinks defied the rigid hierarchy of British society to create a new wave, and then next wave, of rock and roll. The band has stayed front and center of transatlantic rock music for an incredible three decades. Here co-founder Dave Davies reveals all-- about the band, the scene--including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Who--and his brother Ray in a painfully honest, sometimes euphoric autobiography. photo insert., The autobiography of a member of the Kinks, chronicling for the first time the inside story of the band and the British invasion., The co-founder of the long-lived English rock group The Kinks recounts his turbulent life in the whirlpool of pop stardom, his notorious feuds with his brother and band-mate, Ray, and his long affair with singer Chrissie Hynde.

  • Even with the UFO's... It's the KINKS!!!

Even with the somewhat odd bits about communicating with ET's this book is far better than Ray Davies' pseudo-Orwellian "X-RAY" if you want to really get into the Kinks' experience. Dave Davies' account is ten times more readable, actually contains family pictures that Ray did not include in his unauthorized autobiography, and is a slightly goofy, far-out, and totally friendly read. Dave's account is fun and transparent in all of the opposite ways that Ray's was buried, then masked and cloaked, then disguised as fiction. I could barely finish "X-Ray" because it was so totally pompous and contrived. Ray is the better songwriter of the two, I think, but his book is unreadable. Too many cheap smoke-and-mirror tactics that give little ...
