With a high-quality feel and superb expandability, this is the perfect tool for both professional photographers and advanced amateurs.When planning the GR Digital, Ricoh's engineers began by identifying the elements needed to provide the high picture quality demanded by discerning photographers. After extensive tests and research, Ricoh placed special emphasis on resolution, noise level, color aberration correction, color reproduction, tone, and distortion characteristics. In order to achieve extremely high levels in each of these areas, Ricoh gave the GR Digital a CCD with 8, 130, 000 effective pixels.

    Point-and-Shoot for Camera Nerds

    Fifteen years after learning of this camera, I bought one — for monochrome work. It’s tiny, lightweight and, after a bit of learning, quite easy to use. My background is 50+ years of film photography therefore I have no problem if the images have some digital noise — which roughly mimics film grain. There are likely many cameras that are technically better than v1.0 of the Ricoh GR Digital. Right now, this is the best camera for me; coming from film work and desiring a camera that can be configured for fixed focus* (Ricoh’s “Snap Focus” setting, and fully manual exposure settings. It is incredibly small and capable for the work I want to do with it. *overriding autofocus; distance set to 2 metres. This is a camera with a cult following and not recommended for non-geeky camera ...

    Underrated street photography monster

    With snap focus, an excellent lens, and great black and white rendering, this camera is one of the most overlooked budget street cameras. It may be lacking in resolution and a modern feature set, but for hobbyist work, this does almost anything you need it to.
