At 35 years of age, Jessica Chandler is a single mother with a new business. She lives with her daughter, Tracy, in a little backwater community on the Georgia coast, Tybee Island. She works evenings at John's Seafood Diner to help fund her daughter's college education. A failed marriage, and a recently failed relationship has put her personal life on the back burner until Tracy, now a senior in high school, embarks upon her college career. But the earth beneath her feet is about to start spinning in a new and unexpected direction. Tom Knight, once a promising college physics student and now a construction worker, travels from Atlanta to assist in building a school in nearby Savannah. His best friend and employer, the ruggedly handsome and good-natured Jack Rumble, travels with him. Their plans - to stay at a house on Tybee Island for the duration of the project. Jessica comes to know Tom through a chance encounter by way of Tracy. Immediately evident to Jessica is Tom's prodigious intellect, but what lies beneath his quiet and reclusive nature is a mystery. Soon she finds that Tom is passionate and beautifully poetic - he unexpectedly climbs right into her heart. But she only sees the tip of the iceberg.
