    About this product

    Product Information

Are you looking for a way to vary the pick-up when you’re playing your electric guitar? The DigiTech Bad Monkey distortion guitar effect pedals give you a sound boost that’s great for classic rock, blues, or jazz fusion. The basic level feature raises your instrument’s output signal while the gain feature puts your amp into overdrive. The low and high features give you the ability to heighten or crimp your instrument’s bass and treble frequencies. The knobs right at the top of the Bad Monkey tube overdrive controls all four of these effects. DigiTech pedals work well with bass guitars, lead guitars, and practically any other type of electric guitar. This one is a buffered pedal, which means it works through an electronic circuit. This circuit helps correct for the capacitance or signal loss that’s often associated with the use of multiple cords. When your amplifier is some distance away from your instrument and its accessories, a buffered pedal can help compensate for that distance. If you’re using more than one effects pedal, those extra pedals can also throw off your tone. This is because their circuits stay connected to your instrument even when you’ve switched off the devices. The Bad Monkey pedal reduces impedance so that you can make your playing sounds clearer and purer. This Bad Monkey musical accessory has two output jacks. Connect the amp output jack directly to your amplifier to juice up your sound. The mixer output jack lets you connect the device directly to a mixing board or a recording device. When you’re using the mixer, you won’t have to use an amplifier to enjoy a full guitar amplifier sound. This feature also functions as a cabinet emulation device. Cabinet emulation allows you to maintain overall sound integrity while you’re recording, so every note you produce will feature a tone you know and want. Cabinet emulation can help filter out that irritating high-frequency interference that sometimes comes from your guitar amplifier’s signal. An AC adaptor jack is located on the back of your DigiTech Bad Monkey. It’s directly opposite of the high and low knobs. This jack allows you to connect a power supply to your tube overdrive. The input jack that allows you to connect your instrument to the device is on the left side. Just below this jack are the two release pins that hold your device into place next to your instrument. Press down on these pins to open your pedal’s battery compartment. The device takes 9-volt DC batteries. When you’re putting in a new battery, make sure it doesn’t impinge upon the spring or the switch arm. When you’re setting the DigiTech Bad Monkey distortion effect pedal up for use, make sure to turn its volume all the way down. The output should be connected to either an amp, a mixing board, or a recording device. The input should be connected to your musical instrument. Turn up your volume to a comfortable level, select the effect you want to demo, and you’re ready to start jamming.

Best TS-style OD I've Tried, and Great Price.

This is my favorite TS-style OD at any price, but for $35 you can't beat it. I use it to push my JHS Angry Charlie into an aggressive metal tone, or into a very fluid, sustaining lead tone. It sounds great this way, and the separate "bass" control lets me dial back in the bass loss that typicall comes when using a pedal of this type. I've also experimented with the pedal as its own drive channel, in front of my Joyo American Sound (Amp sim pedal) and it has plenty of its own gain to excel this way. I'm still playing with settings to get a nice, bluesy driven tone in front of the clean American Sound pedal, but getting good results so far.

    • Such a Wonderful BM

This bad boy holds its own on a bass pedalboard amongst many other more expensive OFD pedals. It sounds great coupled solely with my Orange Twin Stroke boosting it into the bass riffage stratosphere. But where my Monkey really shines is stacked up in various combos with my SA Aftershock, Blues Driver, Titefuzz, warping my chorus/flanger, and also when I crank my 2 Stroke into true OD territory. This wouldn’t be the only OFD pedal on my bass board only because, well, there will never only be one. This isn’t freaking Highlander. And also because I tend to favor pedals that crank toward extremes. But this baby is my super glue, the one I throw into the mix to tie a screaming tube into a deep, echoey chorus or when I want a heavy fuzz growl to clamp down with some face shredding bite.

    • Very useful pedal

My favorite overdrive pedal at the moment. With the 2 band eq I can set it so it doesn't roll off too many lows or highs like a TS. I run the lows and highs at about 90% and when I kick on the pedal it just adds some grit and gets real warm and fat in the mids.

    • Cult Classic

I bought this for my band mate’s birthday. I have one and it’s one of my favorite pedals. I bought mine back when they were new on the market. It was cheap but had a great sound. There is a reason that these still sell used but they aren’t cheap anymore!

    • Going up in price. Good for harmonica and guitar

This is more of a boost vs a distortion pedal. Treble and bass are smooth but do not have a real pronounced range. Volume control is good and very usefull for use with a harmonica mic that does not have a volume control. Gain will give distortion but I run it fairly clean. Pedal is heavy and well built. Pedal also adds some compression. Passes signal well when disengaged. I like it.
