    A Huge Media Circus With Tragic Consequences

    Chuck Tatum is a down & out, ace newspaper man who wants to redeem himself and be on top again. A tunnel collapse near a small town provides the answer. An man looking for artifacts is trapped and dying. Tatum immediately turns the tragedy into a media circus with tragic consequences. This is a top-notch, film noir style story. The action is well choreographed, the dialog is crisp & smart, and the whole thing is masterminded by Billy Wilder. Kirk Douglas does a star making turn as Tatum. This one is pure, golden Hollywood at its best. A must-have for all, serious film fans. As always, the "Criterion Collection" DVDs are the best for audio & video quality. Highly recommended.
