About this product

Product Information

This book follows on from the same author's introduction to the Mini-Lathe (Workshop Practice Series No. 43) and presents a series of projects which are intended to extend the versatility of this little machine. In some cases, additional machining capacity will be required, which some readers may find at their local model engineering club. The book covers the Mark 2 Mini-Lathe, and specific tools such as the radius turning attachment, the tailstock and the dividing head, and includes techniques such as taper turning and knurling. Whilst specifically written for the Mini-Lathe, some of the projects in this book can equally be applied to other small model engineering lathes and in many cases the concepts can be scaled to suit other equipment.

  • a good read for someone who understands lathe work possibly

as a newby to the world of lathe work and seing as the book was based on the mark 2 of the lathe that i had just bought i thought it would be a good idea to have this book. unfortunatly, the book is not a simple read, possibly for someone who has a working background in metal working or part of a model engineering club with acsess to other types of machines the mods and additions this book would be easy i expect, but at my experience level its abit advanced. the pictures were good though, better than the previous book, which i bought at the same time.

  • Almost essential for the new user of a mini-lathe.

This volume pretty much continues where the earlier book left off. One or two of the projects might easily have been in the other volume as they are both basic and simple to make. For this reason the volume is useful both for the beginner and the more experienced lathe user. Some projects require access to other machines (particularly in order to mill the extended slide) but even so give the reader something to aim for. Some knowledge of engineering drawings would help, as would sitting in front of the lathe, while visualising what is being described. The book would also be useful for those with other small hobby lathes, perhaps looking for a new project. The photographs ,which are in colour this time, are far clearer than the earlier volume and complement the text perfectly. Thoroughly ...
