    Works with R/S PRO-652

Good quality cable. At first it wouldn't work with the Win-500 programming software (no scanner found). I loaded the Bu-Tel ARC500 RS software from Radio Reference and reran the FTDI drivers and everything worked great. The port and USB serial device were listed the same in Device Manager both times. Not sure why Win-500 didn't find it and Bu-Tel did. Don't think it was the fault of the cable.

Radio Shack FTDI Chipset USB Scanner Programming Cable 20-546

Cable does not work. downloaded the appropriate VCP drivers and it would not work tried all comports and even had a computer guy take a look at it and figured out the cable was bad.

  • Difficult if you make it that way...

Don't just plug this cable into your computer. Instead, download the drivers as indicated on the package and install that first. Restart the computer and then plug things in. Works great with my RS PRO-652 Digital Desktop Scanner and the software downloaded from RadioReference. I noticed that if you have Windows 8+, you may have to force install the driver as it scans Windows Update for the latest driver that doesn't work well at all.

  • Works as expected

Everything is fine. If you happen to be using this cable to connect it to a scanner (Whistler, Radio Shack etc) you need to take off the mono adapter which is included.

  • Did not function for my application.

Did not function in my application. Hardware maker blamed software maker. Software maker blamed hardware maker. Such is life.
