Its out of date so obviously I can't recommend it and any newer core rule book's rule changes override these rules. This particular book smells awful, whatever happened there, really should have been noted in the description. Other than that everything else went well and it is what it should be.

Plain and simple, it's a core book. Essential information, charts, tips, example's throughout. Very useful book. Many magical item and artifacts toward the end of the book; I think, included, for adventuring ideas. If you want a list of items and such, get arms and equipment guide and magic item compendium. I used to do alot of ad&d'ing back in HS, and the newer D&D is pretty much the same and or better. Get it, love it, enjoy it :)Plain and simple, it's a core book.
