About this product

Product Information

Nippon Ichi's strategy RPG full of elaborate combat mechanics and oddball humor makes its first appearance on the PlayStation 3 in Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice. The game returns to the demon-infested Netherworld, but instead of beginning in a castle it starts at a school known as The Nether Institute, Evil Academy. It's part Hogwarts, part Alice in Wonderland at The Institute, where protagonist Mao is considered an honor student because he is constantly goofing off, whereas his nemesis Raspberyl is called a delinquent for showing up on time and being willing to learn.

After months of reading comic books and playing video games, Mao decides it's his destiny to vanquish the Overlord of The Institute -- even though the Overlord happens to be his father. Mao is joined in this pursuit by Almaz and Sapphire, both of whom came to the Netherworld specifically to destroy the Overlord.

A number of gameplay mechanics have been added or tweaked to reflect the school setting in Disgaea 3. The Dark Assembly, which served as something of a Senate and allowed players to create characters and submit requests, has been replaced by the "Classroom System" that functions like a student council. New characters are treated as transfer students, deleted characters are considered expulsions, and players will be able to switch seats in class to combine attributes with other characters using the new skill merging feature.

The battle systems have evolved as well, with new ways to use the character-stacking Lift and Throw system, new systems for monster units, and new dimensions added to the Item World. The developers have also added a puzzle element to the gameplay by including Geo Blocks, which are 3D forms of the Geo Symbols introduced in previous Disgaea games. Absence of Justice also continues the strategic depth the series has been known for, allowing characters to level up almost endlessly, and featuring four separate story lines, more than 50 jobs, and approximately 300 characters.

    Awesome game.

I love the Disgaea franchise and I love this game. I'm proud to own it and have it be part in my growing video game collection.

  • Not as good as the ones prior... EDIT: Pretty Good...

I am a huge fan of the Disgaea series (actually pretty much any game produced by NIS), so, of course, I played the previous 2 Disgaeas and loved every minute of them (still playing them actually, lol). So when I heard that a new Disgaea title was coming out for the PS3, I was ecstatic. However, once I actually started playing it, I have to say that I was kind of disappointed. Where the previous games racked you with sidesplitting humor through the childish antics of the main cast from the word go, this one started out...actually kind of stupid. Maybe I've just gotten more mature or I built it up too much in my mind before I got it (did that before Kingdom Hearts II and somewhat ruined it for myself), but this game was not nearly as funny (I mean, it deserved a chuckle here and there, but ...

  • Disgaea Absence of Justice

I loved the first two disgaea's and was so impatient as to wait for the uk release of the third bought it from usa. The stroy is just as random (and childishly funny) as the first where you play hero confused demon, or a demon confused hero as he strives to kill his father and gain the title of overlord (even though he is heir, lol.) Exact same graphics (2D sprites in 3D maps), which may disappoint considering the big leaps in graphic capabilities from the ps2 to ps3, but good in keeping within conformity of its predecessors. Slightly more complex geo system and arguably much harder maps from the start compared to the other two games. Same types of characters maybe lacking in any extra classes that may generate more excitement, different way of learning skills in the sense that you pay ...

  • Disgaea 3 - An unchanged formula

If you are a fan of the Disgaea franchise, then you will undoubtably enjoy this game. The winning 2D formula hasn't changed - both to its credit and discredit. Pros: • Offers new and even more in-depth ways to level and customize your characters. • More puzzles and expands much more in depth on the concept of Geo Blocks. • Improves on attack animations and they seem to be a bit quicker to move the game along • Offers a few additional character classes. • Story is amusing, occasionally comical and voice work is well done. • Keeps to the traditional leveling obsessed gameplay as its predecessors. Cons: • Sprite qualities virtually untouched from the PS2 versions. • If you've played the other games, then you've seen 90% of the character classes before. • Camera angles STILL are extremely ...

  • A bit different from previous Disgaeas but it delivers!

This game uses a different skill system than previous Disgaeas. The weapon proficiency system is also gone. Everything is learned through Mana so Mana much more important in this game. The story is also great. Filled with deceit, humor and tear-jerking scenes. If you liked the previous Disgaeas, you'll love this one as well. Disgaea is known for its massive post-game content. It is no different here. If you intend on getting all the trophies in this game, be prepared to give this game hundreds of hours. One of the hardest trophies to achieve is dealing 10 billion damage. That's right, 10,000,000,000 damage in one turn. Disgaea 3 is very much worth your money and will entertain you for hours on end.
