Synopsis
Who would have thought the electric bass guitar with its frets removed would transcend the rhythm section to become one of the most instantly recognizable sounds in all of music? From the jazz genius of Jaco Pastorius and the funk/punk abandon of Les Claypool, to the landmark rock of Jack Bruce and Sting, the instrument has a lyrical legacy all its own. • Great book with greatest fretless masters - all in one

This is a great and probably rare book on the subject of fretless bass. It has reviews on all the fretless cats starting from Sting to Jaco and in between. This book is great for keeping all the information about their techniques/styles/gear and essential recordings in one place. Though some of the ground breaking fretless pioneers from other styles of music couldn't be found in here, just to mention two - Steve DiGiorgio and Sean Malone. I would wish, though, that this book would get deeper into fretless bass setup details. The information provided is good only for starters...hmmm, maybe there's another book on that somewhere? Also lessons on technique could have been more expanded, but I guess one should buy a transcript book for that. If you're a fretless fanatic - you will probably ...

  • Grab your copy and your fretless!

As a compilation of BP's Fretless related articles, this is a very good approach for every bass player interested in or already inmerse in the fretless bass sound and technique. Chris Jisi did an impresive work collecting interviews and put them alltogether to bring us this piece of art. It encourages us to keep for the path to our unique sound, and gives us the chance to experiment with some of the most remarkable fretless bass lines. Excellent reading!
