As the third installment of the X-Men series opens, the world has entered a relatively peaceful period for mutants. There's a mutant-tolerant president of the United States, a blue furry mutant named Beast (Kelsey Grammer) heading up the Department of Mutant Affairs, and Magneto's shape-shifting femme fatale, Mystique, has been captured. The tranquility is shattered by two events. Worthington Laboratories, using a powerful mutant boy, develops a serum that eliminates the "mutant X gene" permanently. This so-called "cure" quickly divides the mutant community; Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and his school are willing to give the government the benefit of the doubt, but Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his mutant Brotherhood see the serum as a vile threat to their way of life. They form an army of mutants and march on the fortified Worthington Laboratory located on Alcatraz Island. A much more dire threat appears in the form of the resurrected super-mutant Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), who has succumbed to her cataclysmic Id identity known as The Phoenix. To face these menaces Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Storm (Halle Berry) and the younger members of the X-Men must leap into action, but they must do so without the guidance of Professor Xavier--in a showdown with the powers of The Phoenix, his mind-control powers proved insufficient. To his credit, new X-Men director Brett Ratner emulates the style and tone struck by Bryan Singer (director of the two previous films) by combining outrageous special effects and hyperkinetic action sequences with earnest soul-searching and mutant "issues" that are clearly meant to parallel the political hot-button topics of tolerance, prejudice, power, and responsibility.

Avg Superhero film - Much 2B Desired!
I was an Xmen comic book fan as a kid, going back to the early to mid 90s. Look and Feel - 2 stars: This is one of Xmen's true failings. In comparison, Spiderman gets a 5 star rating. No matter the movie, the look and feel is more like Batman's Gotham City. Xmen is nothing like that. Even the original Xmen's costumes are colorful and innovative. Juggernaut didn't look like the real Juggernaut; he looked like more like a wrestler with armor than the true Juggernaut. It doesn't have the look and feel of an Xmen comic coming to life. Actors - 5 stars: They did a great job overall. Even Shadowcat(new) did a veteran job. Some people might have an issue with Wolverine tearing up, but that's true to the comics. In the cartoon, Juggernaut had an scummy sinister voice; a voice that sounds like someone who is scum. Special Effects - 4 stars: My favorites were Storm's lightning bolts and twisting moves to attack or get her out of trouble, Shadowcat's wall and ground shadow, all of the battles, and I would add that they did outstanding job with what they were given. Although, Iceman isn't Iceman without an icebridge ride through the town; that is as much Iceman's trademark as Spiderman's webslinging. Story - 3 stars: I would say that they did a fairly good job with it. Jean Grey died in the last movie and they had to come with a believable reason that she could survive. They did; the idea was that the power of the Phoenix kept her alive. In the comics, the Phoenix is Jean's evil persona. Up to this point, they had made Xavier and Magneto the most power mutants known to man, but, to show how powerful the Phoenix was, they allowed her to easily destroy Xavier and she had Magneto shaking in his booties. Phoenix's power level is very true to Xmen comics. Also, just as Xavier gathers mutants for his cause, Magneto also does the same in the comics. However, Rogue's character is all messed up, according to the comics. In the comics, her character speaks to women strength and she was the Xmen's only woman strong arm. Now, it seems like Rogue will have an even more limited role, as she went and got a cure. The movie also has far too many villians written in for the amount of heroes and for the movie length. Juggernaut, who is as big as or bigger than the Hulk, should have been written into a future movie as a main attraction(maybe as a King Kong like figure with the Xmen having to stop him). He is Xavier's evil half brother and his storyline is important to the Xmen. They could even make him live, so that he is a possible future opponent for the Hulk. Now, there's an idea, but that's another subject altogether. Jean Grey, Xavier, and Cyclops all die. I won't spoil it. Magneto loses his powers due to the cure. The movie ends with a possible prelude to Xavier's return and Magneto regaining his powers in a future movie. It wouldn't be to far fetched for Magneto's powers to return; they did in the cartoon, where he lost and regained his powers.

If you followed the comicbook storylines, don't watch.
I had this horrible awful dream the other night that someone took the two of the greatest X-Men storylines of all time and reduced it to a terrifyingly bad encapsuliation, written and performed about as ineptly as anyone could ever imagine. Unfortunately this dream turned out to be real. And the more I thought about this film, the more upset I became. This is just an awful AWFUL film that, for some inexplicable reason, people continue to defend by saying "At least it was entertaining!". This jerkwad excuse does NOT work. There is very little fun and almost nothing funny about this film. It works hard to hold your interest but fails miserably. I do not actually blame Brett Ratner so much for this failure as much as I do the writers, Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn. They have little-to-no respect ... Halle Berry couldn't be more wooden if she had roots firmly planted in the ground. Hugh Jackman... when did Wolverine become such a wuss-bag? When have we EVER seen Logan shed a tear in the comic? If you've found it, you're more of a fan than I. Hugh Jackman seems to want to turn Logan into the Melancholy Dane. And it works not one bit. The only outstanding performer in this film really is Sir Ian. McKellen is one of the greatest actors to have ever lived and he continues his great work here. Kelsey Grammer as Henry "Beast" McCoy also is quite good, because his performance is one done with great affection for the character. I don't know if the direction that they decided to go with for the creation of The Phoenix is interesting or absurd. It does fit in with more of the "real world" stuff that they're looking to do (having Phoenix be a repressed dominant personality rather than a cosmic lifeforce is definitely more realistic, but this is a COMIC BOOK ADAPTATION...). Anna Paquin, who has been my least favorite character of the entire series, not that I disliked Rogue, but Paquin ALWAYS seems to be on the verge of tears. Rogue was someone in the comics, who, at times, revelled in her power, whereas Paquin's Rogue is sooooo incredibly saddened by her abilities (understandably, but COME ON... let her have some FUN once in a great while) that we're meant to empathize with her ultimate decision, which is also something that really bothered me. Most people in this film are just wasted... none more so than James Marsden aka Cyclops. His character is given the WORST of the fates in store for the mutant heroes, and no respect is given to him other that a passing moment at the end. That was the worst part for me because Cyclops was always my favorite X-Man, and his treatment in all of the films (worst of all this film) is upsetting to say the least. For the better part of the first decade that X-MEN was in print, the main focus of the group was Cyclops, even though they did have the foresight to have the team have an actual TEAM dynamic, as opposed to this film where it seems it's Wolverine vs. the world. It ranks amongst BATMAN AND ROBIN, ELEKTRA, and LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN as one of the worst comic book films ever made, and I recommend to read the comics and skip this film entirely.

Excellent Action Packed Movie
Now, this is one great action packed movie and that says alot coming from me because I am not into Sci-Fi Fanasty movies. I purchased this movie for my kids, and my husband because they wanted to see it so I had to sit down with them, and watch it until then I had never watched an X-Men movie before and to my surprise I really enjoyed the movie. It is definitely an action packed movie, and if you enjoy alot of action then this is the movie for you. I had never watched an X-Men movie before in my-life until this one, and now I own the first, and second movie also. I have to give this a 5 star rating out of 5.Now, this is one great action packed movie and that says alot coming from me because I am not into Sci-Fi Fanasty movies. I purchased this movie for my kids, and my husband because they wanted to see it so I had to sit down with them, and watch it until then I had never watched an X-Men movie before and to my surprise I really enjoyed the movie. The Last Stand
Overall this was a great movie. Awesome special effects and action sequences. All the new character additions were great as well. The storyline seemed to be lacking somewhat though, I wish they had developed it a bit more. I was disappointed to see that one of my favorite characters, Nightcrawler, was not in this movie. I was really looking forward to seeing him again. But other than that it was great. We get to see Storm do a lot more damage in this movie, which is great, I'm glad she was put in the spotlight. Be sure to watch a short scene after the credits. You won't want to miss it!Overall this was a great movie. Awesome special effects and action sequences. Okay movie
I bought this because I had the other two X-Men movies.Got it for a steal off eBay for 0.99 cents.I really thought this movie lacked in the story.Did not care for this one as well as I did for the others.Only hope that the Wolverine movie that is supposed to come out is way better than this.Still, if you like the X-Men or comic book movies,you might want to give this a try.If you are a die hard X-Men fan,you will probably be disappointed.I bought this because I had the other two X-Men movies.Got it for a steal off eBay for 0.99 cents.I really thought this movie lacked in the story.Did not care for this one as well as I did for the others.Only hope that the Wolverine movie that is supposed to come out is way better than this.Still, if you like the X-Men or comic book movies,you might want to give this a try.If you are a die hard X-Men fan,you will probably be disappointed.
