About this product

Product Information

Enter the world of the Ghostbusters with "Ghostbusters: The Video Game," published by Atari for the Nintendo Wii. This immersive gameplay experience brings together the voices and in-game likenesses of the stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, as well as the writers of the movies Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, for an all-new storyline. Set two years after the events of "Ghostbusters II," "Ghostbusters: The Video Game" for the Nintendo Wii, is set in New York City around the time of Thanksgiving 1991. The game features recognizable ghosts from the original movies, including Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, along with some all-new spectral characters to battle and capture. Games are positioned from a third-person perspective with players assuming the role of an unnamed new recruit alongside the original Ghostbusters lineup. A first-person perspective is also available with the use of the PKE Meter and goggles. This equipment highlights paranormal items in the environment, directing players via the PKE Meter to haunted artifacts or ghosts in the area The Proton Stream weapon, which can only be used in third-person perspective, must be used strategically on ghosts and objects to optimize its use and avoid running out of charge at critical moments. Once ghosts have been weakened, they can be captured in the ghost trap, just like in the movies. To weaken ghosts in the Capture Stream, players also have the option to slam ghosts against environmental surfaces. Upgrades to the Proton Pack are unlocked throughout the game and include alternative firing modes, such as Shock Blast, Meson Collider, and the positively charged Slime Blower. Each firing mode has an alternate setting, with options including Boson Dart, Stasis Stream, Slime Tether, and Overload Pulse. Upgrades are unlocked with in-game money, which is earned by capturing ghosts and identifying artifacts or ghost types. Unique to the Nintendo Wii version of the game is that players can use the Wii Remote to control the in-game neutrona wand. Players can also release ghost traps by making a bowling motion with the Nunchuk controller. The single player campaign is also unique on the Nintendo Wii version of the game, offering players the choice to play as a male or female character. One of the key features of the Wii version is the more accessible and stylized, kid-friendly interface. "Ghostbusters: The Video Game" is visually simpler on the Wii, with more cartoonish graphics and the Proton Pack’s temperature meter presented on the HUD instead of on the pack itself. Also on the Wii is a split-screen co-operative mode for two player games. "Ghostbusters: The Video Game" marked the 25th anniversary of the first Ghostbusters movie’s original theatrical release. With nods to the classics and plenty of new material to discover, this family-friendly game makes for a nostalgic trip to the Ghostbusters world. This Wii version of the game will also work on the Wii U console.

    Great port!

It might not look as polished as the other versions, and it's lacking a lot of the great little nods to the movies that made the others great like the painting of Vego located in the GB HQ and the twinkies in the kitchen, but overall it's a nice port. If you grew up in the late 80s/early 90s, GB was a big part of your childhood and this game brings back great memories of being a kid. The game is entertaining, I remember playing the NES ghostbusters games and they weren't that fun - this game is. Need I mention it has an all star cast?

Not a Fun Game, Due to Poor Controls

This would be an exceptional game, but the way that the controls are designed is awful. This must have been an early Wii game, because it relies too heavily on the constant need to have your Wii-mote pointing perfectly at the sensor. If you move your Wii-mote one iota to the left or right, your character follows after it and you cannot properly play the game. I found myself constantly spinning around the room and after several attempts to play, I just became so frustrated that I shut it off. Buy the Xbox 360 version and you will be much happier.

  • Bustin Makes Me Feel Good!!!!

Ghostbusters is not only my childhood nastalgia of choice, it's a passion of mine. I originaly purchased the PS3 version of Ghostbusters and loved every minute of it. The game play is fun and challenging the story line is good and having the original cast do the voice work made this my faverite movie game I have played by a long shot! I was checking out a GB fansite and did not realize that the Wi version was based on artwork by Dapper Dan(check his style out on deviantart.com). The Wi version has a fun style to the graphics and the game play is different. The story line is very simalar to the other platforms yet there are enoph changes from bosses and challenges to keep it interesting even if you have played it on PS3 or 360.If you are a true Ghosthead like me get both versions. If you ...

  • Great Fun and Laughs

Takes you back to the original cast of the 80's Ghostbusters, which is the best Ghostbusters in my opinion. Game play is fun and engaging, giving you plenty of goals and challenges. Having the original cast from the movie is great and hilarious to listen to the dialogue. Graphics: Not the most modern or best Graphics but it has a lot of charm to it. Hey, it's retro now. Sound: Top Notch with sounds you know from the movie Game play: You'll feel like your one of the Ghostbusters with a proton pack that will destroy most objects in a room and capture ghosts. Lots of fun. Lots of objectives and goals such as scanning ghost and finding out more information. Value: A cherished movie captured in a game that is actually fun. What more do you need? If you love and cherish the original ...

  • Nice try, comes up short on Wii

Why did I buy this game? Nastalgia from the original movie, Wii Motion gameplay that would include my 5 yr old son and I playing together and price point through eBay. First, I am aware that the Wii is not supposed to be a graphics intensive machine. HOWEVER, the graphics quality of this game, on the Wii, still fell below expectation. Blocky characters looked as bad as the V.Tech (V.Smile) games. Also, the Wii motions are repetitive and boring and the split screen for 2 players (on a 46" HD projection) is difficult to watch in order to follow the action in the game. Furthermore, character movement is confusing and clumsy, much like any Resident Evil game...which IMHO is not good. Lastly, the game has been on the shelf since first playing and hasn't moved since. ...
