About this product

Product Information

Utilizing the full power of the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), GRID is a slick arcade racing game with realistic graphics, a clean in-game GUI, and a strong following among fans of the genre. GRIDd follows in the footsteps of its race driver predecessors in the TOCA Touring Car series, also from Codemasters, to focus on race driver skills over vehicles. It is the first of the series’ games for the PS3 (and Xbox 360). Race courses in GRID for the PS3 are grouped into three geographical zones including Europe, the USA, and Japan. Each of these zones offers specialist autosport styles. In Europe, the focus is squarely on track-based racing. Both the U.S. and Japan have street racing courses, with Japan having more of an underground street racing focus with short, winding tracks ideal for drifting. The vehicles also vary to suit the demands of these varying geographical zones, with Europe featuring touring and GT cars, the U.S. having muscle cars, and Japan offering highly modified Japanese makes like Nissan and Subaru. With the focus on the drivers though (so often overlooked in other autosport games), players in the game’s GRID World mode are tasked with increasing their reputation and earning money. As the game progresses and races are won, the player’s driver is rewarded with money and sponsorship bonuses as well as challenged with higher difficulty levels. While players are encouraged to spend their money on different vehicles, the emphasis is on replacing rather than upgrading cars, another divergence from other autosport games. Players can purchase brand new vehicles or get them secondhand from the in-game eBay Motors after taking care to inspect them for functionality. One of the most innovative gameplay features in GRID for the PS3 is the rewind function. End up in a head-on collision with another vehicle, and rather than having to duck out of the race, players can rewind time to an earlier point, before they made the critical mistake that led to the crash. Players can also rewind at other times, such as after a series of collisions and falling afoul of GRID’s sophisticated damage system. The rewind feature can be used a set number of times, depending on the difficulty level, with overuse being penalized by a reduced cash reward upon completion of the course. Codemasters worked hard on optimizing the game’s highly responsive controls for the PlayStation 3 though, so it’s easy to avoid overusing the rewind function. Players also have the option to enable traction, braking, and stability assistance. Another of GRID’s most celebrated features on the PlayStation 3 is its advanced AI, which varies competition between highly challenging, competitive rivals and more inept drivers to leave them far behind. All of the other drivers are capable of taking risks and making the same critical errors as the player, giving GRID a sense of realism. Also adding to the realism is the day and night cycle of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race, which can be run through in 24 minutes in the GRID World career mode. Multiplayer games in GRID for the PS3 support up to 12 players via LAN or PlayStation Network, and all courses and events from the single-player GRID World mode can be played in multiplayer. Codemasters’ GRID is a visually impressive, innovative, and realistic arcade racing game. Great for quick races between friends and more involved single-player games, this PS3 game quickly established itself as a race gaming benchmark following its 2008 release date. While it was also released for the Xbox 360, DLC, like the Prestige Pack, is exclusively available on the PS3.

  • Good game for the price

Now it's almost obsolete but Codemasters did a good arcade near simulator racing game. For those are used to Need For Speed, the first turn show you that there's time you just have to release the gas button. I had to repeat the first turn almost 10 times before I realized about how make it. There is no sound ingame, and multiplayer in PS3 has few people, but it's still a fun racing game. Other backward for PS3 is it don't support trophies as it has on Xbox360, and never will. Codemasters says it isn't simple implement trophies on a past game and they don't see the the pay off doing that. The replay camera let you travel back time and chose a point to do it that turn again. You feel looking forward for turn because it's where you have the probability to pass an oponent. If you have friends ...

  • a great first generation ps3 racer

this title follows up on codemnsters already established pro race driver series. i was dissapointed that the aussie v8supercars and german dtm series have been dropped in grid. i loved playing the full season of v8's on the pro race driver series. this game has a limmited amount of tracks and cars compared to other racing titles in todays racing game market & past pro race driver games as well..but what the game lacks in sheer car & track numbers it makes up for in the cars that it does have in the game. most are full blown race cars and power house's no mini vans here lol. the damage model is the best i have seen on any ps3 title to date..i like this game a lot better overall than need for speed drift & dirt2 wich are both very good games, with dirt2 being my second favorite racing game ...

  • My GRID review

Fun and challenging. The cars and tracks are well detailed. Engine noise is okay(Not the best but far from the worst). The game has a decent amount of cars, but I wish there were more available. The issues I have with this game, you can't customize your vehicle in any way (besides the paint schemes and that gets old quick); and the replay shows the same replay angle from each rotating replay perspective. Besides those few flaws it's a joy to play.So far, I currently own need for speed carbon and burnout paradise and played all the Gran Turismo series.Out of those three games I'd place it second behind Gran Turismo. It's a game worth buying.

  • A Hard Game for Hard Gamers !!

So you start your career driving for other team and when you get fund for buying your own car , you start your own team racing against the worlds !! This game is between Forza motorsport and Project Gotham Racing style . Pros: - The difficulties of the games - The great choice of cars (40 and +) - The great variery of races ( Euro , USA , JAPAN ) - Visual Aspect ( like a movie - The replay are incredible ...) Cons: - The difficulties of the games - The sound of the car (sometimes bad...) - No music Overall a great game that everybody who likes racing simulation will love to have . Thanks
