Angela Arden (Charles Busch) is a former cabaret singer whose career has long since hit the skids and crashed to an abrupt halt. Her marriage to producer Sol Sussman (Philip Baker Hall) is rapidly heading the way of her career, but with Sol unwilling to agree to a divorce Angela gets busy with a bottle of arsenic and terminates the marriage in a less-than-legal manner. Now free to carry on her illicit affair with hot young stud Tony (Jason Priestley), Angela first has to deal with a suspicious daughter, Edith (Natasha Lyonne), and equally suspicious family maid Bootsie (Frances Conroy). Son Lance (Stark Sands) also plays a crucial role, especially when it turns out that both he and Edith are also bedding Tony. First-time director Mark Rucker has successfully created a camp classic by working closely with his talented star and screenwriter Busch, who gloriously hams it up for the cameras throughout, delivering a constant barrage of pithy one-liners. Priestley, Lyonne, and Sands provide deliciously silly support throughout, culminating in a movie that resembles a version of FAR FROM HEAVEN produced by trashy cult director John Waters.

Could be a genuine Bette Davis or Joan Crawford or Barbara Stanwyck movie. In fact, Bette did play twin sisters in at least two movies. THIS MOVIE - a hoot and a hollar! Great dialogue, great costumes, GREAT acting and music. Luke Perry - who knew? Can watch it again and again and still pick up new details.

Charles Busch, woman impersonator, stage performer & playwrite, who started out as a one man comedy show, then East Side NYC male drag woman impersonator, has been on & off Broadway. Now s/he does Hollywood playing an aging screen actress (the likes of those s/he's rather obsessed with, such as Joan Crawford [blek]). In a full & typical Busch dark cheeky comedy, Arden murders her husband in desperation to feel alive again. He/r bitter children confront he/r & decide to make their murdering Mommie Dearest face justice. The kids drug he/r with LSD which acts like a mind-warping truth serum. Even though I would consider the film a dark comedy, Busch can't be taken seriously as an actor. At best s/he's just a drag queen trying hard not to let that show. It doesn't ... In Die Mommie Die! This movie is very entertaining and has good acting, the main character is cause for laughter as well as the other actor's. While the plot was somewhat back and forth this movie captures your interest along the cat and mouse spectra. Highly recommend this title for viewing if you enjoy a good drama comedy style.
