The Roger Corman-produced cult favorite DEATH RACE 2000 (1975) gets an update in this reworking from action director Paul W.S. Anderson (RESIDENT EVIL). In a role sure to please fans of his work in CRANK (2006) and the TRANSPORTER films, Jason Statham is Frankenstein, the fierce driver portrayed by David Carradine in the original. The script, also by Anderson, largely does away with the original's satirical elements in favor an increased number of breathtaking crashes and stunt driving. In 2012, the American economy has collapsed, and prisons have been taken over by corporations. Overseen by Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen), Terminal Island prison generates immense amounts of revenue with pay-per-view broadcasts of "Death Race," in which inmates participate in an auto race where anything goes. New inmate Jensen Ames (Statham), who has been framed for the death of his wife, is chosen to take over the role of Frankenstein, the contest's recently deceased masked star driver. His chief competitor, Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson), unaware that a new man is behind the mask of his old rival, will stop at nothing to win. With Case, a sexy navigator from the nearby women's facility, and a trusty pit crew led by wise veteran Coach (Ian McShane), Ames has a good shot at winning. If he does, he's been promised his freedom---but the race holds more obstacles than he can imagine, and ratings are more important to Hennessey than being true to her word. Loud, gory, and lightning fast, DEATH RACE is geared to the video game generation, right down to the graphics that appear onscreen during the race's TV broadcast. Once again, Statham creates a great hero to root for in a performance that rises above the copious stunts and visual effects. Allen, in uncharacteristic role, is suitably imposing as the steely warden.

It's the year 2012 and the US economy has collapsed, enemplyment reaches all time high, crime rate is spirialing out of control, & the prision sysytem is at a breaking point.Jensen Ames is a hard worker and the metal work shop is closing.The one thing he is thankful for is his wife and baby girl.But when a someone breaks in and kills his wife, they set him up to make it look like he did it.He is then sent to the most dangerous prision, where it is truely each for their own, and being in there for a crime he didn't do.When the warden gives him an ultimatium to race or live his life ...

    good movie

    I love this game..." This movie was right up my alley; plenty of great exciting car chases, explosions, fight scenes, sex appeal, blood and guts. Yep, it's a blast. On top of that, though, the story is pretty decent and it has a fairly good cast of characters. Writing and acting are not bad. Production design is great (love the cars). The photography is generally not bad, even though the camera shakes around quite a bit.

    Movie came with dvd and Blu-ray which is awesome. Plus display is amazing for being such an old movie. Definitely recommend watching!!

    Bad Blu Ray

    As with a lot of Blu-ray movies I've been seeing the same problem. There's theses unexplained tracers around all moving people. I have watched over 50 Blu -rays moves with my brad new PS3=$599 on my brand Sony LCD KDL-40BR4 tv=$2400. Now this is up setting because, I've seen this same movie on DVD on the same system and loved the move. There was no tracers so it was a no-brainer it should be awesome on Blu Ray WRONG. Its looks so bad that I should return it. So if you thinking about getting this movie go for the DVD. PS, SONY get it together I keep seeing more and more bad Blu-rays with this problem. After spending $3000 on all your high end products to get the new technology and this is the end rezult. I looked through the web I'm not the first or last person that's have this issue.
