About this product

Product Information

Here in his first non-Shannara novel, Terry Brooks has written a gripping story of mystery, magic, and adventure--sure to delight fantasy readers everywhere. Landover was a genuine magic kingdom, with fairy folk and wizardry, just as the advertisement has promised. But after he purchased it, Ben Holiday learned that there were a few details the ad had failed to mention. The kingdom was in ruin. The Barons refused to recognize a king, and the peasants were without hope. A dragon was laying waste the countryside, while an evil witch plotted to destroy everything. Ben's only followers were the incompetent Court Magician; Abernathy, the talking dog who served as Court Scribe; and the lovely Willow--but she had a habit of putting down roots in the moonlight and turning into a tree. The Paladin, legendary champion of the Kings of Landover, seemed to be only a myth and an empty suit of armor. To put the final touch on the whole affair, Ben soon learned that the Iron Mark, terrible lord of the demons, had challenged all prospective Kings of Landover to duel to the death--a duel which no human could hope to win. The task of proving his right to be King seemed hopeless. But Ben Holiday was stubborn. . . .

  • Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold! by Terry Brooks

This is a great book of the fantasy genre. Ben Holiday sees an offer to buy a "Magic Kingdom" in a catalog - he does not have the perfect life - and being semi-rich, he buys the magical kingdom for $1000000. His adventures start as he quickly figures out its a real magical kingdom, but with lots of problems. I particularly enjoyed this book - I am pretty partial to books of the fantasy genre. There are also sequels - they are as follows : 1. Magic Kingdom For Sale -- Sold! 2. The Black Unicorn 3. Wizard At Large 4. The Tangle Box 5. Witches' Brew They are all awesome books - and like all series of novels, they get better and better as you read the series. Enjoy!

  • An Excellent Read

Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold! , introduces the life of Ben Holiday, a wealthy but unfulfilled lawyer, and the bizarre events that conspire to send an intelligent and logical man on the most illogical vacation, namely - a magical kingdom set well beyond the humble means of modern science. Along the path to a maddeningly real alternate world, Ben encounters a number of characters such as Meeks - a cunning and devious ex-court magician consumed with greed, abd Miles Bennett - probably Ben's only real friend since he lost his wife, both acting as catalysts to his pursuit of bizarre liberation. Upon purchasing his fantastic kingship in a land where the imagination is reality, he interacts with a slough of characters including Questor Thews - a well-intended court magician whose whose magical ...

  • Terry Brooks

I bought this book because I had recently read another of Terry Brooks and was enthralled. His work has all that you could want in a fantasy book. It has magic, love, and drama.Magic Kingdom was a delightful read and I can't wait to order the others in this series. I also want to read his Shannara series. This is a book and author I definitly recommend.

  • For thos who love fantasy, Terry Brooks is always a treat.

I have found Terry Brooks more imaginative than many fantasy writers and their stereotyped writings. His Magic Kingdom For Sale - Sold, which is the first of six in the Magic Kingdom of Landover Series is typical of his talents. The story held me enthralled from beginning to end. The series is exceptionally good reading. Lee Gottlieb
