Why was this show cancelled?
Since I'm in Canada, I'd never heard of this show when it originally aired, since it was limited to ESPN in the US. I only ordered the DVD set because it seemed like a good deal and could be combined with another win, to save on s&h. Let me tell you, this show has really surpassed my expectations and I would've bought the rest of the seasons, had it not been cancelled after its first. Apparently, the NFL just couldn't handle the way the fictional football team was portrayed on Playmakers, causing the show's demise. "Playmakers" had a little bit of everything for everyone, from crime to homosexuality to drugs, illness and personal issues. Heck, I don't like sports and I loved this show! It may not have been "Desperate Housewives" but it sure had its share of drama, nonetheless. Many ... Many eBay sellers seem to have it listed for less than the actual retail price, so grab yourself a deal and buy (or bid) on one today!

Two thumbs up for Playmakers
I bought the DVD set at a reasonable price - it was the low cost of the DVD set that initially got my attention. I do not have cable TV and therefore, had not even heard of Playmakers. However, this is an excellent show. A previous review states that Playmakers met its demise because the NFL could not handle the content of the show. Well, watching it made me wonder if the NFL runs any way like what they show in Playmakers. If it does, it sheds a lot of insight into things, especially how the next big thing or the present playmaker is covered up for no matter what he is doing, including drugs. Exciting, dramatic and realistic
I bought the Playmakers and watched the entire series in one day. I was very impressed by the realistic portrayal of the characters (all parts). I originally watched portions on ESPN when it originally aired in Sept-Oct 2002. but missed a few episode because of travel. I was disappointed when ESPN decided not to do a second season. I had been looking for it on DVD for a while and I got a great price. I heard a rumor that the Dallas Cowboy's owner (Jerry Jones) was a big influence in having the show cancelled, Don't know how but I can imagine why.... it probably struck too close to home.I bought the Playmakers and watched the entire series in one day.
