With 600,000 deaths, the Civil War is the biggest conflict to ever take place on American soil. The war began in the 1860s, and was primarily due to the prosperous North shipping in cheap immigrants to perform laborious tasks, something the agricultural workers in the slave-aided South were denied. Angered by the beaurocracy coming out of Washington, Southerners took to arms when Abraham Lincoln was elected president. With the North relying heavily on military aid flown in from Europe, the South never really stood a chance, and the rest is history.
